Delta And The Three Pegasus-owned Ex-TWA 757s

I know that all of the ex-TWA 757s delievered to Delta so far are owned by ILFC. However, it was once stated that Delta was in negotiations for leasing three aircraft owned by Pegasus Aviation. Is that still the case? If so, when are they expected to be delivered?

So far out of the ILFC-owned aircraft, six aircraft have been delivered to Delta: N702TW, N703TW, N704X, N706TW, N707TW, and N709TW. The remaining ILFC aircraft scheduled for delivery are N710TW, N712TW, N713TW, and N721TW.

According to the FAA's registration databasse, Pegasus currently has three ex-TWA 757s available for lease: N705TW, N717TW, and N727TW. All of the other ex-TWA 757s owned by Pegasus have been leased to foreign carriers.

This is a good question......over the past months, we have heard many stories concerning these three airplanes: some said DL may be interested and others have claimed that DL picking up the airplanes was a ""done deal""........yet we have heard nothing official from Delta.

DL could certainly put these three airplanes to good use: (1) they have everything in common with the 10 ex-TW/AA 752s already going to DL, (2) the 752 is versatile and can be used for a variety of roles in the DL system, and (3) we keep hearing how DL is short on aircraft and DL has recently returned (or will shortly return) another 3 763As, a 757 and (I think) one or more MD88s.

I guess its all about price and terms: if Pegasus wants premium prices for the 757s (which are in rather high demand) then DL will probably not take the airplanes. That being said, it would be nice to hear a definite answer on this matter.

Thats a NEW number........the numbers that I have always heard is 10 (the ILFC airplanes) or 13 (the ILFC + Pegaus airplanes).

Well, there are two additional ILFC-owned aircraft, N722TW and N723TW. Maybe Delta is interested in acquring those aircraft. There are also two aircraft owned by Wells Fargo Corporate Trust (N716TW and N718TW) that are available.

OK, thanks.......any futher details about the addiditonal FIVE 752s.....are those five airplanes also from the ex-TW/AA fleet?

15 has been the magic number for a couple of months now. Although the following comment in the attached press release (about the first 738 with winglets, new slimline Y seats, AVOD nose-to-tail) did confuse things a little more:

the last part seems to indicate 16 757-200s in the 174 seat config (i.e., 16 Business 158Y)

This is on the tangent of the topic, but I know that as I write, Avianca is ferrying a 757, registration N802PG, from MIA to BOG.
I have searched for info on this airplane without success, so have become to believe that it's a new registration.
I found out that Pegasus had an ex- Shanghai airlines on offer for lease for the 4th quarter of 2007, so about now, MSN 24473, c/n 301 (registration with FM: B-2810).
Could it be this one?
What I find a little strange is that if so, this 757 has PW engines, whereas AV have RRs on theirs. But it could still be a short term lease until the new airbuses start arriving next year.

Yes, I believe 3-4 of them are now in service, mostly on domestic routes. The one international right now is JFK-SNN but because it's in the domestic configuration, the whole plane is being sold as all-Economy.

There have been quite a few of the ex-TWA 757's parked at AFW. I don't know which aircraft are out there, but if someone can get a look at the aircraft parked out there, then you might get a good idea of which 757's are headed to the widget (Delta).

Sorry for not doing my own legwork. If I had, I would have come up with the current status on ATDB (now that I have, I see it shows the five aircraft identified by the thread-starter as current with DL), and even a few photos..sorry. Interesting that ILFC has kept DL hasn't reregistered them.

Delta generally doesn't re-register aircraft. The ex-ATA 757s still have ATA regs. Also, Delta kept the N825MH (registered by Boeing) registration on the first 767-400ER, and then registered the rest of their 767-400ERs as part of the N8xxMH series.

Thanks indeed for this info! An RR engined 757 makes more sense!

I don't think that it's wet lease, as it is AV operating the ferry flight. I would guess that this aircraft will undergo modifications and receive AV's colour scheme during the next month, so that it can be rolled out from December onwards, when AV has additional frequencies: 1 to LAX, 1 to SCL, 2 or 3 to LIM, same with Spain, as well as the usual seasonal increase.

Which brings up a question I have always wondered about - I have been told the MH in -432 reg. nbrs was the initials of a leasing company owned by ex-CEO Leo Mullin's wife (Mullin Holdings ?). Truth or rumor?
And if not, then has Boeing used the NxxxxxMH reg. before? Delta MD-11's prior to delivery?

No, that was an A.net rumor. All of the 767-400ERs are owned by Delta.

I remember that one! But I have heard it all. I have also heard that Delta had back-door deals with companies to purchase their T7's and some of the 738's  Yeah sure . I just have one question, I would figure that Delta is making "payments" on their new aircraft? I wouldn't think that they could afford to buy so many new aircraft over a short period of time.
