Anyone know what a Northwest 747 was doing at FLL today? Was it a divert? It was just sitting on the tarmac from at least 10:00 to 15:00.

It is a NWA 747-200 cargo aircraft. It flew ANC to MCO as flight 9986 and then onto FLL as flight 9830...Where it's going from FLL, your guess is as good as mine...

The opinions I post are of mine and mine alone, not of the airline I work for.

This will be shipping the sad Dolphins to their game in England. I believe I read the Phins leave on Thursday.

Don't they fly American?

Yes, they usually charter a 757. I'm guessing either AA didn't have a long haul aircraft available for them, or that this is an extra aircraft for fans going to the game.

Which is it? A cargo aircraft or a passenger aircraft? If the Dolphins are flying someplace I doubt they would fly in a cargo plane, even though that might be kind of fun. They could practice inside while flying.

Are the Phins using a cargo plane to ship over some equipment? That is a lot of equipment?

Doubt the search function is working, but there was a post about this 2 weeks ago. N624US ferried down to FLL from MCO. It will be charted out to England, and it's not cargo.

Well I guess either AA did not have a 767 or 777 to use. I doubt they would give the Dolphins a 777 since they dont have many spare ones. The dolphins did give special to season ticket holders to the game including Air Fare. If this is for the players and fans I dont know. But obviously they need a long haul airplane.
Just Dolphins Please. Dont embarrass your self's to much in London and WIN A GAME. This is just about the only game I care about them winning since they are just about one of the worst teams I ever seen play.

I'll go down and take some shots...when is it scheduled to leave and arrive back at FLL? I'll likely post on myaviation.net, as I have trouble getting shots onto a.net...

I believe the NFL is footing the bill for this charter similar to how the NBA picked up the tab for NW to fly the Magic and Cavs to China.

Its not a cargo its a pax, I posted stuff about this flight a while back in this thread: NW 742/330 OCT PAX Charter Flights Cameras Rdy (by Burnsie28 Oct 2 2007 in Civil Aviation)

Yes, NW often gets the league charters pursay for NFL and NBA especially for these kinds of games. I don't know if their is another game in China for the NBA but NW has another schedule to china that comes close to what the other schedules were for the Magic and Cavs.

I was on the ramp when it arrived in Orlando a week or so ago and was working when i saw it depart. Pretty cool to see one of the two (i believe 2?) pax 747-200s left in the Northwest fleet. Btw, burnsie28, where do u get ur info on charter scheduling and routing? I rely on info from within NW, but if theres an outside source id love to be able to check it out.

I got it right from the bid packets for the 747 ANC Captain. So within NW.

They retired them from commerical service last month, but kept 2 just for charters.

I saw it arrive at MCO 2 weeks ago, have a shot of it on.....'the other site'.
