8 C010T3: Thanks to Allan777 from Contato Radar, we have photos of VARIG's new identity at BSB:
9 Ghost77: Good for me! Not cheap.. looks modern! Can't wait to see the first pictures! FelipeGIG, if your friends upload to a.net please let them know to write
10 Neo: So there is nothing orange like GOL. They kept the blue, changed the font, ... really like the new 3D compass.. very sleak I think.. can't wait to se
11 Dougbr2006: Looks like GOL have decided that a corporate look is the way to go. I like the tail even though the picture is small, I am please they haven't ditched
12 PPVRA: Wow, they actually managed to make blue and orange(-ish) work. That's a really good job!
13 Dougbr2006: Well I just found the first pics on the net, copyright acknowledged. It looks very clean, but a larger VARIG would have been nice, must admit I like t

15 Dellatorre: Too white for me!!!! In the overall it looks ok, but still miles away from what RG once was.
16 JGPH1A: The old compass sinking beneath the waves. How appropriate. In 6 months they'll be "GOL (operado por VARIG)"
17 Kempa: I saw the cutoff compass and thought: "New VARIG, a fraction of what it once was."
18 GatiBOSGRU: Uhm... To be 100% Honest... I DON'T LIKE IT ! Looks cheap. I know they are going for something simple, but that is WAY too simple. I wish they would h
19 B757capt: I like it a lot. Looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20 FMAL: I think that a bigger "Varig" on the fuselage as well as painted engines, in blue with the fading lines (as the tail) would make it 100% better, and w
21 PEET7G: It would look nice for a start-up and it is not as bad as I was expecting, but it comes nowhere near the glorious VARIG of the old days... it is a sad
22 SAOAP: While I still think the plane looks way too euro-white, the tail is truely something to admire. The addition of a light-grey belly and engines covers
23 N766UA: Another cheap white fusulage. And if I didn't know any better, I'd think the logo on the tail was supposed to be a flower or something, not a compass
24 XA744: Well, the tail and the winglets save the day !!! What a shame they couldn't´t come up with something for the fuselage... Best regards
25 OB1504: I'm hoping that they're still going to add something to the fuselage and engines, as C010T3 alluded to.
26 Mortyman: The old colours were so much better...This looks cheap....
32 SCCutler: " target=_blank>http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=JBqPK1xkrcE Am I the only who, when watching that ad, kept expecting someone to say, "Am I with Ansett?

34 MAH4546: Great to see GOL turning VARIG around. Can't wait until they return to MIA!
35 Alitalia744: The ad to me looks like a Brazilian version of Delta's "Change" TVC....
36 MIAMIx707: WOW!!!! ..that is terrible. What is that? a Carambola fruit on the tail? Another livery that isn't gonna last 5 years. The old one didn't make you loo
37 VC10er: Well, it could have been worse but it lacks class in leu of looking trendy. And varig was and should have been positioned for the future to be about c
38 Bok269: I really like it. I think the branding that goes along with it is great as well. Hopefully the finished scheme will feature some kind of unercarriage
39 ThirteenRight: I think the tail is ugly, though I like the new font. I liked the compass better.
40 LHboyatDTW: I like the logo. Unlike 90% of a.net, I accept change.... because it's sometimes good All it needs is some of that dark blue for an underbelly then it
41 Mestrugo: To be honest, I'd have preferred the classic, distinctive scheme they had on the 80s, with the cheatline, the flying lady on the side, the flag of Bra

45 WFM: Hello, I think the new Varig livery is great. Their web-site is also looks great. Cheers, Michael
46 AeroWesty: Wow, Varig isn't pronounced anything like I thought it was. (I always thought the VAR part was pronounced like the E in "very", and the IG ended with

49 C010T3: Today a 4 page newspaper ad was published on O Globo. Here you can see how there are going to paint the compass rose in different positions on the tai
50 Dougbr2006: That is Brazilian pronunciation of the company name. Looks like there is a B767 in the new scheme hidden somewhere or is it a well dubbed video, see
51 787KQ: Hey, I am abolutely happy that the VARIG name survives and a large part of the past identity. As a result, I just cannot complain about this. Thank yo
52 C010T3: I was just observing page 4 more closely and I noticed that from that angle the shade on the aircraft was just not right. Are they perhaps planning a
53 Jfk777: I wish the new VARIG well but using 763ER to Europe and the USA is putting it at a disadvantgage to all the 777 and A330's used by TAM.
54 PHKLM: Uhm, that is a little short sighted, isn't it? I agree with you VARIG will have a very hard time competing with TAM, but there is demand and if price
55 C010T3: Rumour has it that VARIG will spend circa 3 million per aircraft in order to retrofit the 763s with 787-style interiors starting next April.
56 Caribb: I like it.. glad too they've kept the compass.. just glad also they are still around! I hope they have great success!
57 Dougbr2006: If that is true it will certainly gloss over the age of the aircraft and rumour is also abound the there is a potential B787 or B777 order coming up
58 PHKLM: Nice and smart move, I think they don't have another choice really. Not to be nitpicking, but don't you mean the planes will get the Boeing Signature
59 C010T3: Well, it's a rumour, isn't it? I cannot do much about it.
60 PHKLM: I understand, don't worry We'll see next year; all the best for VARIG, it's good to see competition back on the Brazil routes.
61 Mortyman: I really miss the dark blue belly....
62 Aleksandar: First, let me be clear. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can replace the beautiful classic VARIG livery. As for the new one, tail doesn't look bad. Maybe

The tail is nice but there is too much white. Caribbean Airlines white livery is broken up with big titles maybe that could be done with the new VARIG livery.

Either way it has every indication of a quick photoshop job, even if it's' for quick interchange of the 737s between the two. Can't think of any major airline with a worse livery, not an image that would indicate a world class airline. It looks even cheaper than GOL's. lol
Is the hummingbird in Caribbean's livery a sticker or paint?

Caribbean Airlines is a terrible livery. There's little to be gained from anything there. BWIA's last livery was a classic.

Agree, but in these times of cost-cutting (including less complex painting processes and less added weight in the form of paint), this is probably as good as it gets.
I am pleased with the result. I think it bridges the heritage of RG with a -hopefully- brighter future. The reminiscence of the compass star or whatever it is called in the tail and winglets is not bad. All they need to do now is upgrade their long haul service. Good luck to RG! And our Brazilian friends should be, in my opinion, excited, because RG will strive to compete fiercely with JJ... and ideally this should result in lower fares and better service.

As bad as it is, it's still a lot better than Varig's.
Perhaps we should email Varig/GOL with how much this livery sucks. I'm sure a few people email them and they'll get the point. After all, you know this look isn't gonna last anywyas. Something cheap and simple can still look so much better than this, ugh. I don't even like the "updated" VARIG letters.
Officially the latin airlines are the most boring looking. Never thought I'd see the day. Probably should put my camera away and get another hobby.

Unless you see a public outcry a la Air India, then they may change it. Just having a few people e-mailing them about their paint job being bad is not enough to have them do anything to it.
Quoting MIAMIx707 (Reply 69): Officially the Latin airlines are the most boring looking.
how you can call these boring is totally beyond me
Though it's funny. Everytime a new livery is shown, no matter what it is on the plane, a.netters take the livery way too literally and become merciless pointing out every flaw it contains. It's just a paint job people that may last around 8 or so years. It's not your plane so why give a damn? I don't!

Agree here with C010T3. The new brand image of Varig looks great and modern. The different tail paint designs though with the same background and brand feeling is very smart and innovative. Though what a pitty that the fuselage scheme remains white with only the varig title. Too white i.m.o.

I would make a post with how the old paintschemes looked but that'd be murder for the users in dial up (if I didn't already with the post above, sorry lol)
They were much more colorful, interesting and distinctive.
I wanted to see Varig in Miami, but after this I really don't care.

You can't be that surprised though, can you?
Unfortunately, the trend as of late has been to "light on the paint" schemes, that are easy to draw, cheap to paint, and save fuel. It's too bad. Varig's old scheme (the one they used until the late-1990s) was, IMO, one of the best airline schemes. Ever.

I do see the trend (though I wouldn't really find AM all too blah), but you can't officially label ALL of them as bland as you appear to be doing. Avianca amd LAN are obvious exceptions that in my opinion are far from blah. At least those have some color and eye candy.
Instead they contracted Landor (who's had more misses than hits lately) to be able to say hey we're a thrid world country but our airline's image is done by Landor! The resulting scheme, created in 1996 had little creativity.
