What we all expected will now happen; All 9 Finnair ATR-72s will in the future be transferred to Finnair's new Estionian subsidiary Aero Airlines AS, which is expected to start operations NEXT summer (not this summer, which noone expected anyway). Finnair has already inspected suitable operating premises at Tallin Airport. Aero will operate in the Baltic region, and to Finland. If (or rather when) Estonia joins the EU, Aero might also start services to Scandinavia and other EU countries. The crew will in the beginning be Finnish, but the aim is to train and employ local personel.
Aero was Finnair's original name which it had from it's founding in 1923 until the name was changed to Finnair in 1968, although the name had already been in use for marketing purposes some time.
