Northwest Airlines Upgrade

On my world perks card i have 42,687 miles. so i thought on my next fly woch will be June 5 2001 to
Anc Ak I thought i would upgrade to buniess or first class. So i went to theur websit www.nwa.com To see how many miles it would take to upgrade. It said "" From select Coach fares or from business class fairs"".. What dose that mean?

It means 40,000 miles will upgrade you from select coach fares, or from a business-class fare. "Select coach fares" probably means they won't upgrade you from bulk or consolidator fares, but will for most other published coach fare classes.

select coach fares means the discounted coach fares;
the other option should be from full coach fares.
