American Airlines and LAN Argentina applied with DOT today to codeshare. LAN Argentina would place their code on American AIrlines flights from Buenos Aires to Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and New York City, as well as various domestic AA flights, and international AA flights from Miami to Aruba, Cancun, Kingston, Montego Bay, Montreal, Nassau, Punta Cana, Santiago (DR), Santo Domingo, and Toronto.
The AA* code would be placed on LAN Argentina flights from Buenos Aires to Bariloche, Cordoba, Comodoro Rivadavia, Iguazu, Mendoza, Rio Gallegos, and Ushuaia.
This is a great oppurtunity for AA to expand their intra-Argentina network through codeshares. Curiously, the initial application does not have AA placing thier code on LAN Argentina's Miami-Buenos Aires and Miami-Punta Cana-Buenos Aires routes.

While I'm sure AA and LAN won't have any problems getting approval, my question is this: will the codeshare ever actually happen? AA and LAN Peru applied for and got a codeshare deal several years ago, and yet, still nothing has actually been operationalized. It seems like a great system - in both places - AA can feed pax into LAN domestic flights going to lots of major internal points, and visa versa. But why hasn't it actually happened?
