I am on a flight from SBA-SMF via SFO in the morning, and was checking the flight status of those flights for today and yesterday. The ones that left today were mostly all delayed 1-2 hours and the ones yesterday were mostly cancelled or delayed 2-3 hours...for a 55 minute flight. The reason was 'atc' according to ual.com. Anyone know the reason?

Likely result of 28L/10R having been closed for a few weeks now for resurfacing.

Simply put, one cloud in the sky will slow down SFO arrivals. Well not one, but cloudy skies/low ceilings, runways too close together to allow simultaneous ILS landings and one runway under repair/reconstruction have made arrivals in to SFO a mess for the the past week. United.com is not lying to you. It's ATC delays. My advice, take the first possible flight to SFO you can if you want to make a connection, especially to Asia.

Welcome to SFO, Southwest! Don't ya' all just luv it there!

Such is life flying through SFO, wait til the winter rain/wind starts. The runway construction just adds to the misery.

Maybe in the afternoon, but not in the AM. It was sunny and clear when we departed SFO yesterday.

Whenever crosswind components exceed 15 kts usually, departures on runways 1L&R stop and all departures and arrivals happen on 28 L&R, which obviously slows Everything down

Today was due to a low ceiling and SFO was on ground delay program for most of the day because of it.

Well the airport is completely closed right now. The WX doesn't seem to be that bad. Anyone know what's up?

According to faa.gov, "Due to WEATHER / LOW CEILINGS, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, CA (SFO). To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

Earthquake just happened. Nothing to do with the delays but it sure didn't help. It was a 5.6 with the epi in Milpitas.

Our flight QF73 landed around 10AM and it was horrible.

You departed in a window of nice weather. I was on CO 361 IAH-SFO and were delayed 1.30 hrs with an additional 25 mins of holding apon arrival into the area. But when we were sitting on the ground in Houston they did say the weather was showing clear.

Remember that even if the weather gets better, the damage has useally been done already with the backlog. But it did become overcast again after you left apparently.
