Ok, this might have been discussed here before, but why is it that the amount of allowed luggage to Brazil on every single USA Airline, is always more then to the other international destinations? I was just checking AA, DL, CO, and UA’s websites and all of them have a specific luggage allowance to/from Brazil.

Again I am sorry if this is a repeat or a stupid question, I was just curious!

Here are the links on their websites.

Checked Air Canad's website and they also have a "free weight" limit for Brazil.

Tks

Oh...

Got it...

So Brazil imposes that law on every international flight or is there a specific guideline for it?

I do have to agree though, that the amount of luggage on flights from the US to Brazil is INCREDIBLE !

Tks for the replies

On the other hand Aeromexico adopts the piece concept policy for all of its international flights (two bags up to 32kg/70lb each) but a one piece 20kg limit on flights to Brazil. Don't know how it works on flights FROM Brazil though.

So my question remains…

Is it a law that is imposed on ALL airlines, or is it some kind of agreement?

Any thoughts?

I think it's an official Brazilian regulation. On Europe-South America flights, Brazil used to be the only country using the piece system rather than the weight system. However baggage is becoming a free-for-all now and carriers are starting to make their own rules, but I'm pretty sure there's still a Brazil government regulation requiring use of the piece system to/from Brazil.
