FR Sells "naughty" FA Calendar On Board

Starting next Friday, Ryanair will sell calendars on board, showing its own FA's in "exciting ways". It will show both male and female FAs and spokesman David Gering says that although they'll show "the occasional breast part" it will be decent enough.

The revenue will go to Orbis, a charity organisation that helps avoiding blindness among children in developing countries.

The articles (in Dutch only) mention a Ryanair press release, which I haven't been able to find.

Disclaimer: I included the picture that the article showed - I am not sure if this picture really came from the calendar! Well at least MOL is already excited...

That poor 737!

Well at least the calender is for charity and not profit for FR. It's a good idea, I'm sure lots of chavs flying to Spain for some cheap winter sun will buy them.

Jeez, can Ryanair sink any lower? The images are utter trash - they could at least have gotten a creative photographer in to shoot something of worth for a calender... that is if this isn't just a hoax - none of the pictures shown feature FR aircraft... although the editorial department could have just been short so dived into image banks for them.

I am quite sure that Ryanair has a significant percentage of beautiful women (and men) among their staff. Perhaps better would be a calender of some of them in tasteful bathing suits or other attractive outfits with the background of landmarks of cities or countries they serve and where their staff is from. You could have Erin from Ireland posing in a white tank bathing suit along the Liffy in the city center of Dublin, Gretchen of Hann in a bright red 2 piece in front of an old castle in Germany and Tatiana with a tight low cut pheasant blouse in front of an old palace in Riga.
Of course, some of us here would prefer scenes of their aircraft, in flight, but for us, they would only raise a few Euros for charity. If the idea is charity, that is fine, perhaps one connected with the UN that helps children.
By the way that picture of MOL with the a/c model is very disturbing.  Wow! But it probably does describe his personality very well.

I am not the greatest fan of FR or MOL, however why is this "Chav-like". I am sorry but I fail to see why this should be an issue.

Before passing judgement please consider the following:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/5398334.stm

or

http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/c.../09/14/xray_calendar_feature.shtml

After which then decide if taking your cloths off for a charity calendar is "Chav-like" behaviour

ANY extra money for ORBIS in my mind is to be applauded, not slammed or have derogatory comments about it, however we feel about the carrier.

So the staff that took part in this Charity calendar were coerced? told to do so? had it in their contract?

or did somebody think that:

"This is would be a good idea to make some money with the companies backing, that is fun, not too OTT an well worth applauding"

Oh sorry forgot, these FA's obviously speak for every FA flying the world today.

Please.

I am sure the list of volunteers for this calendar far exceeded the 12 that got put in.

You may find it cheap and Tawdy, but tell that to the hundreds of children and old folk who can see as a result.

Please see my other post and then tell me if those group of staff also belittle there respective groups.

LCC's have revolutionized air travel. Their aim is to make air travel affordable, fun, and something everyone can enjoy. They have (in all the LCC's i have flown) been deliberate in moving away from the image that flying is only for the rich and famous. If one is a person who still regards flying as being for only those with the big bucks, and wants to fly in a very serious, stiff-upper lip, aristocratic atmoshphere, then by all means, DON"T BY A LCC TICKET!! This is just something that FR thinks is fun and will help charity. FR along with many others have opened up the skies, to all regular people, most of whom are not shocked and offeded by such pictures.
I guess, if you are like me, i simply would choose not to buy the calender. But i wouldn't be offended that FR was offering it. I mean its not like they are giving them away free with your ticket, you have a choice. I mean think abou it, the local newsagent and corner store sell FHM magazines as well as informative publications and newspapers. Does this offend me, ...no. I simply choose what i buy. Guys, lighten up a little, and in terms of them being a serious airline and competitor, i think that Tdscanuck said it best...

Agreed, i am religious, and every time i read an inflight magazine, or any magazine for that matter there are suggestive pictures or adverts. (And no, i am not talking about those sort of magazines  Wink . ) For that matter on the way to the airport, there's some gorgeous woman on a 20 meter billboard wearing a wonderbra, and a little furthur on is some lovely lady wearing next to nothing eating some ice cream. Its all about freedom of expression and the same freedom that they are exercising allows me to practice my religion freely. I don't have to like it, but then i don't have to buy the product either.

I take your point, but you are missing the whole issue here.

If this was the norm for these staff, if their uniform was overtly sexual and demeaning, they were all the same body shape with assets to match then yes, it would be a disgrace and deeming for all, not only for the staff but also for woman and men in general (you forget Men have the same insecurities as well)

Now the fact that this is a one off, for charity, voluntary and no more demeaning that a perfume ad or a wonder bra (cheers Stickers) ad, then No. I am sorry I dont think it falls into that category. However I am not a Woman or an FA so I do come from a slightly left of Field view.

However If hundreds of FA's state on the board that its demeaning and embarrassing then I will get back in my box and reevaluate my social views on life!

I'd buy one of these calenders. I wonder if it's possible to get hold of one without stepping on board a FR flight?

Maybe those who are criticizing it are gay? It seems that's true. If they were selling a mechanic macho man of the month cal. you'll read a lot less complaining.

Ughhh -- those FAs look pretty old and butch

I don't know. While the photos from the calendar feature some nice looking gals, even the first photo shows some pretty toned women, even if butch and old. In better shape than me!

Now, back on topic, any more images available? And am I the only one who finds it ironic that they're using visual sex appeal to benefit the blind?

O'Leary is so brash and arrogant it is unbelievable. Could you really see any other airline CEO doing this?.... well apart from SRB  Wink

Oh Pleeez.... See my previous paragraph

Now that was in relation to the admittedly poor pictures which initially seemed to constitute the Calender. I'm FAR more satisfied with the calender as it is now  Wink

Just goes to show - just when you thought FR couldn't get any more chav-like, they'll pull another stunt like this. How can anyone take them seriously ?

Quoting PlymSpotter (Reply 7):
Jeez, can Ryanair sink any lower? The images are utter trash - they could at least have gotten a creative photographer in to shoot something of worth for a calender... that is if this isn't just a hoax - none of the pictures shown feature FR aircraft... although the editorial department could have just been short so dived into image banks for them.

= Oh come on people. Loosen up. As much as I am a total snobbish biatch, who would not fly FR, I can appreciate how savvy FR is to understand its market and adapt its products accordingly. Good job to FR to do something random. I think its hilarious. Can someone buy one for me PLEASE? Else, gotta search ebay!

I stand corrected. Where the hell were these mighty fine ladies when I flew with FR?

GWB has never said such wise words.

Quoting Gkirk (Reply 26):

I agree.

I'm no fan of FR but fair play to them, it's a good idea and will make lots of money for charity. I'm sure many rspectable businessmen will buy these too, not just these "chavs" that make up all of Ryaniars clientele as some of you suggest. I think i need to travel on one of their flights, since buying one from e-Bay won't have the charitable effect.

think this sends out a terrible image of cabin crew too. I thought they wanted to be thought as more than glamour girls?

Knowing a lot of FR cabin staff and having been at various FR crew parties, I doubt that the majority of the FA's would care about this issue. Most of them are a pretty relaxed, fun loving bunch.

BTW, the pictures posted on the Dutch website are defintely NOT FR crew.

You can buy them off Ryanair's website - no need to fly them.

Ahem, you may wish to re-read the context of that post in relation to the initial post, and then read the one by myself which falls right before your own. My comment was entirely apt and relevant to the nature of the article, as it was initially presented.

Calm down, Dan. It was just a misunderstanding and if he is too good for FR, the jokes on him. Someone sold their soul for some warm nuts and a half can of coke.

At least fly FR and draw on Michael O'leary's face in the letter from the CEO. If he ever looks like a pirate, keep it as it is one of mine.

And, I did sell my soul ... but not for some "warm nuts and a half can of coke" ... I mean who travels Y these days anyways  Wink?

If the first image really was a taste of FR's calender then it really would be trashy, however, I'm certainly not complaining at the actual samples shown so far. *Books flight on Ryanair to buy calender*  Wink

from someone who works at ryanair i can tell you that a couple of months ago they asked for both male and females to apply to do a photo shoot for this charity calender unfortunatley not enough males applied so a male calander was never made the girls that took part all had a holiday on ryanair. it is all about having a good laugh and for thoose of you that have brought one im sure you like the back page the best which has an old granny in a swimsuit with a speech bubble saying theyll have me selling scratchcards next along with the caption of meet whatever her name is from aer lingus at dublin base.
