Allegiant Acquires Four MD-88 Aircraft

Per the 8-K filed on November 6th:

Quote:
On November 2, 2007, the Company entered into an agreement for the purchase of four MD-88 aircraft. The aircraft are expected in service before the end of second quarter 2008. The seller has agreed to provide financing. The closings are subject to customary conditions.

Is a new destination city in the works or are these aircraft going to be used to "connect the dots" between cities like Lansing currently without service to Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale? I believe it's the latter but am interested in what you think.

Personally I think G4 should concentrate on getting established in IWA and FLL before opening a new base. Maybe the odd route not to a base, like BLI-Laughlin or RFD-Gulfport but mainly focus on 'connecting the dots'

Great airline. Wonderful business plan. Customer service at the top of their list. Flight attendants smile. Crews dress professionally. They don't run out of "buy on board." Small airports. Excellent fares. Very clean equipment. Comfortable seats.............I could go on and on!

Allegiant focuses on everything that makes an airline successful while keeping customers happy.

If you haven't flown with them, do it! You will be impressed! It's alot like flying used to be.

Um, I hate to bust your bubble, but on my last Allegiant flight, Allegiant had ANYTHING but customer service on their mind. it's all about $$:

This flight attendant got very crabby and yelled at pax for "talking" while she was trying to count.

They ran out of half the soft drinks.

Small airports are a plus, I do agree.

Fares are great, but with the fee going up to $10/bag each way, I will be considering total price.

Plane smelled like jetfuel on the interior, and appeared to have some type of black stuff around the intakes of the inside air.

Seats didn't recline period on my return flight. There wasn't even a button to recline on ANY of the seats.

Also, they managed to lose my bag on a Wednesday outbound flight from Las Vegas. Ended up in Colorado Springs. Filed a report in CID, but her excuse was "we are outsourced, so don't blame us." After 2 days of calling COS (nice gentlmen by the way) finally got it Fed Exed home.

Bag got home, stuff inside was broken, which was packed VERY well. Allegiant refused to pay for any damage to the bag or anything inside broken. Did get the $3 each way I paid for my bag refunded however.

Will be looking elsewhere for my next Vegas trip in January or Feb.

Next flights: WN DSM-LAS-PHX, US PHX-SJD.

Well, as soon as we have the tail numbers for the new planes we cn let you know where they come from. In the meantime, connecting Mesa and Ft. Lauderdale would make sense as with the Mesa expansion I continue to scratch my head and wonder why there is not an Allegiant Mesa - Ft. Lauderdale flgiht.

Cheers,

I think with 4 new aircraft they might base 2 at FLL and 2 at IWA and start connecting more dots. It seems the PHX service has started off great, so I am sure they will continually add on there.

I think Lansing is in line for FLL service and then IWA service. If they start either, and it is like a Thursday-Sun service, I will defiantly buy a couple of tickets on the first flight.

Customer Service is great and I love that I can go 10 minutes from Aircraft to car. Friendly staff and short waits

Go Allegiant!

I honestly *think* the M88s would be for longer stage length flights to increase revenue due to fuel being more expensive. Does anyone know what kind of seating they are going to have? Anything more then the 150 would need to add an FA increasing cost a bit. Would they be something like 170? I *think* they'll be based at LAS and running routes to TYS, LAN, FWA, SBN, etc.

Any other ideas?

Or you'll try them again, because we all know that you can have a bad flight and a crabby flight attendant on any airline on any day (and aircraft with dirt around the air vents and the smell of jet fuel when on the ground (because you're at an airport, which often smells like jet fuel)). As to the beverages, I have to say that I'd rather that they give the whole can and NOT worry about a possible run on YooHoo, rather than give me a thimble-size slurp of the beverage I want so that there's "enough for everybody".

I believe these will probably be coming from Delta as they have begun to take some MD-88's out of service. N902DL comes to mind. Midwest has recently added a pair of MD-88s (the ex Air Aruba, Southeast ones), Onur Air has either leased out or given back their MD-88s (now flown in Atlas Jet and Eritrean colors). Aerolineas/Austral are painting theirs, etc.

the MD-88 (first flight August 1987) with the JT8D-219s of the MD-83 with an EFIS flightdeck and redesigned cabin interior, with other improvements. It is a upgraded and updated verion of the MD-83. Probably the MD-80 of choice when shopping? I took the info from this site.

So Allegiant gets four more aircraft added to their fleet right as they drop 6 cities. Makes lots of sense. I guess you might be seeing quite a few new cities poping up around the country. Maybe they should start LAS-SPS like they said they were going to back in 2005.

AFAIK, the Atlasjet MD-80 flown in Eritrean colors (TC-AKN) is actually an MD-83, not an -88.

Falcon, you are correct. I mistook the AtlasJet ones for the Onur ones when they were actually ex World Focus, etc. The Turks are definitely into the Mad Dogs, but seem to change colors every month with them (not the Onurs though)...

Yes, you can get a bad flight experiance some times. But, my father and step-mother fly out of LAN to LAS 2 or 3 times a year. They have stopped flying Allegiant. They have had nothing but trouble with them. So now they book their flights thru me and I can get them to LAS close to the same price as G4 out of DTW on a main carrier. And they don't have to pay to have their seats assigned at the time of booking and no $10/each way per bag per person either. By the time you add up all the nickle and diming G4 does to a client. They are better off with going with a major carrier at the same or lower price.

That is why it is smart to use a travel agent. We know these little things that airlines like G4, NK, and the new one Skybus don't tell their clients until after they book with them. ALWAYS check with a travel agent you like and trust.

Those vapors can actually do much more harm to you than good. I hate the smell of jet fuel, but I LOVE the smell of jet EXHAUST.
