Irish Aviation: The Flying 49ers ...

Morning folks and here comes Irish Aviation 49/07 ...

We seem to have rocketed through No. 48 in record time and that without too many major developments. Winter is well and truly in now and with EI now having confirmed that it is axing DXB, fingers crossed that EK will step into the breach.

Pier D is now up and running at DUB; the airport is pretty much a building site now, with all the apron and terminal works, and that's before T2 has started in earnest.

Shannon is still awaiting news from WX on its CDG route; no doubt some heavy haggling there, although FR has increased services and intoduced some new routes; sure why would you want Heathrow when you can fly to Kaunas instead! A second daily SNN-LGW wouldn't go amiss!

All eyes will be looking towards DXB from tomorrow, with a hefty A350 (and A330) order expected from EK; with this and other expected orders (even QF is rumoured), the A350 is gaining credibility and that can only be good for EI.

The axing of DXB was a tough choice and hopefully we'll see this paying off with signifcantly increased traffic (and load factors as well) on US routes next year.

So, here we go again; hold on!

Well it's one month until the new Aer Lingus Belfast base opens and EI22 to AMS departs as the first flight.

Anyone know how bookings are going?

Aer Lingus also has more A320s on the way this month with EI-DVG arriving on the 28th.

Well that's not good news, it explains why the fares are so low! It's good for you though, I haven't been on an empty flight in ages.

Hopefully the seats should start filling up, how are other routes doing?

Hmm, it should be pretty full because it is a new route. Maybe a mistake by EI to start to serve AMS from Belfast???

New routes arent always full and it's not a new route for BFS, U2 already serve AMS. I noticed that U2 fares are also very low, there's little difference between the fares.

That's good, I thought they were only having a codeshare with BA because I havent seen anything on the KLM or Aer Lingus website.

With reference to Pe@rson's exclusion from A.net for the foreseable future (well, at least he cant post, but i'm sure he is still reading), I strongly feel we should try to resist speaking about Ryanair or indeed any other Irish carrier and be the complete embodiment of what he terms "the Aer Lingus Fan club".

Yes, would be a nice feature. I reckon though that DUB has too many late gate changes that are a result of the quick turn, low cost model that is prevalent at the airport. Perhaps someone in Ground ops, the POD or handling there could enlighten us if that is true.

What I used to notice at FRA and in Particular at AMS is that flights tend to be at the same gates pretty much day in day out, something you definitely do not see in Dublin.

Yeah I guess thats true. DUB is all over the place. Sometimes the EY flight is from Gate B and then another day its C . Same with SK and BA/BD.

I see there is a new series on SKY Channel 253 on Mondays. Its following the day in the life of Monarch Airlines Cabin Crew.

Hi folks. I'm in Dublin on a quick three day trip and have to fly to London Monday morning for the day. I'm booked on FR at 08:10 to Stansted and am wondering if this flight will go from the new gates or what the situation might be? Any body know?
Plus it's my first time using FR's online check in...I guess I can do that and then just show up at the security line up when I arrive at DUB (I will only have a laptop bag with me). Is that the way it works?
BTW, had a lovely flight from YVR to LHR with BA !
Thanks in advance.

AC,

It's luck of the draw really, FR are spread between Pier A, the temp gates and Pier D at the moment, although as the days go by, more and more flights are going from Pier D.

Stands wont be planned this far ahead, but someone from DAA might know by late tomorrow evening what is planned. Airlines typically send their daily programmes for the next day by about 6pm, and stands are then planned accordingly.

You can't tell exactly which gates you'll go from as FR operates off lots of different areas of gates in DUB, whereas at STN, they have a whole pier of like 20 gates and 4 more on the middle pier with U2, Jet2 and the like. If you've never been to STN before, you'll notice who are the big boys at the airport just by watching flightops through the big windows.
