Quote:
Seats in Qantas' new international Premium Economy cabin went on sale today.

Qantas Executive General Manager, Mr John Borghetti, said seats in the airline's new Premium Economy cabin would be available on select B747-400 services from:
- Sydney to London via Singapore and Bangkok from 1 April 2008;
- Sydney to Johannesburg from 1 April 2008;
- Melbourne to London via Singapore and Hong Kong from 16 May 2008; and
- Sydney to Hong Kong from 3 August 2008.

Premium Economy return fares from Sydney (including taxes, levies and charges) will start from:
- Hong Kong $1999
- Johannesburg $4217
- Singapore $2189
- London $4567
- Bangkok $2552

Mr Borghetti said Qantas' Premium Economy seat was designed by renowned Australian designer Marc Newson in association with Recaro, manufacturer of seats for the likes of Aston Martin, Audi and Porsche.

He said the airline's Premium Economy would offer:
- a brand new 19.5 inch wide seat;
- generous seat recline and leg room (up to 40 inch pitch);
- 8.4 inch in-arm touch screen video monitor;
- Neil Perry inspired menu with premium wines;
- ergonomic cushioning and an adjustable headrest; and
- noise cancelling headsets.

"Our service will also include priority check-in, dedicated cabin crew, an additional hand baggage allowance, and priority boarding and disembarkation," Mr Borghetti said

"Qantas will offer 32 Premium Economy seats on its B747-400 aircraft in a two-four-two configuration, and the product will also be available on select B747-400 services to the US from late 2008.

"The Qantas A380's spacious state-of-the-art interiors will include 32 Premium Economy seats in every aircraft in a two-three-two configuration."

Qantas will take delivery of its first A380 in August 2008, with services to commence in the last quarter of 2008.

so on sale that when you visit their website you can't book it...not sure how you can claim they'll now have the best in the sky when its priced closer to Business Class fares to London on carriers like EK, EY & JL.

its not about the product look but the price for the product...would you knowingly pay say $6000 (peak season) for Y+ when you can get an all inclusive J class fare for less or roughly the same?

 Wow!
Qutie expensive for Y+ fares. I should also mention that RTW in Y+ with BA/QF is the same price if not cheaper than the London return fare

no joke...I think I can read the introduction of the PE and it certainly didn't show any fares available for May 2008.

in other words your paying twice as much for a plate of food 9in of extra space...when for the same price you can get everything in Business Class plus the seat.

suggest you look again... for the dates it says it is available from and destinations....

I can price up flights to SIN, JNB, HKG etc

Obviously PE is not an option for routes out of PER, like PER-LHR or PER-SIN... nor is i on LAX-SYD etc

- London $4567

I'm with QF077 on this one. Brisbane to London was going on eithad last month for a mere $5000 including tax!!!! (business class of course)
Lets see. Fully lat beds, much bigger PTV, etc etc.... Qantas needs to knock about $1000 off this price to make it attractive in my opinion. Also remember that price folks...that price is FROM... that's not taking seasonality into consideration, which i would be extremely surprised if they charged one flat price all year round. This isn't F class after all.

So its just another $433 bucks of EY fully flat beds. Anybody who can afford to pay for the Qantas premium economy can afford another 8% or so to upgrade to Etihad. the $10K or so for Qantas business class however, is another story all together. I wonder how loyal they think all these frequent flyer addicts really will be after they've been picked up in an S-class mercedes, given a fully flat bed and slept properly all the way to london?

I think the price to Hong Kong might work. We'll see...all comes down to how much Gold status is worth to them.

I'm not stupid & I can read..fact is that the option came online about 15mins ago at QF website for me.

go to a travel agent and you'll get cheaper J class fares than QF Y+ and by a decent margin too.

LOL... I wouldn;t pay that for MK 1st!

I'd much rather pony up $6k to fly J with Etihad or Thai.

whilst the HKG pricing doesn't look all that bad (but still more than VS) the rest of the pricing is pretty high.... but good luck to them if they can find idiots to pay that much.

Agree. The TG fare was about $6400 from memory. Business to BKK then first to Europe.

Agreed....But they have found these "Idiots" to fill their J/C cabins and Y/C Cabins for the last 4 years.

-Newsflash-...QF is one of the most expensive airlines to fly...you think a new cabin is going to make that any different? Dont think so...they will continue to charge these rediculous fares as they know they can!

Cheers

Heres my comparison:

SYD-LHR via the normal hubs.

QF: $5,224.50
NZ: $4,450.10
VS: $4,680.50
BA: $3,836.50

(All in AUD)

I do wonder if you can book BA premium economy and get on QF flights with their product?? Would save almost 2k if you can do it that way!

Now J class:

Thai, Virgin, Etihad and Malaysian all have J class fares from 5,900 up to 7,900.

For something totally different, SQ offer the Executive Economy on SIN-USA you can get PER-LAX for about 2100.00 cheaper than QF's economy and i suspect 3-4k cheaper than Y+ on QF.

Im going back to the USA in mid 2009 and want to fly a premium class but we will see how QF's pricing is then. No wonder they only have 32 seats.
