The ULCC terminal in AUS has not started construction yet. I have heard many things, including that Viva Aerobus (Sorry, don't know their code) will be using/renovating a Texas National Guard Building?!? Either way, the "terminal" will be located on the south end of the field, prohibiting any easy movement between terminals, as the Barbara Jordan terminal is on the north end of the field. The area is bisected by two taxiways and numerous apron areas, including the maintenance (delay central) hardstand.
I will believe all of this when I see it. Viva Aerobus has backing from Ryanair, giving it some clout, and seems to have made a name for themselves in Mexico, however I just don't believe the hype that they will be able to offer THAT much lower of a fare. Aeromexico flies daily to MEX, and they only use an RJ...F9 tried CUN (they don't do it anymore)...I just don't see this being a completed venture.
Also, I have seen exactly NO activity on the south end of the airfield. If they are bucking for a March start, they better get on it, winter weather is not friendly to construction.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of building this terminal so far from the existing terminal?

The purpose is that the building will essentially be a warehouse. It will have absolutely no frills, in order to keep costs low. The reason for it being so geographically separated is simply it is the only place to really build that won't cost an arm and a leg.

So, other than this Viva Aerobus airline, what other airlines would use it? I can't seeing WN or F9 going that no-frills.

Hmmm...if there only was an airline that serves the United States that is predicated on providing a no frills, ultra-low-cost operation modeled after the ones found in Europe and beyond.
