I am thinking of flying TG royal silk class (business class) to CPH (PER-BKK-CPH) in June/July of 2008. I found a really good price, but it won't be worth it if I get the old business class (6 planes have the old, 12 have the new).
So, I'm asking, how likely is it that I'll get the new business class?

Afaik the airplane (747) does have the old product and First Class is being sold as Business Class and the old Business Class as Economy Plus.

Just at Swissgabe are mentioning above - you'll get the old F cabin if you book a C class ticket. The top floor C is sold as Y+ Premium Economy. The reason is that the F market in Nordic countries are absolute nil and that they are using the old 743's on this route.

TG retires both their 743s already. They use old config 744 with old seats.

Just flew TG last month on the A340-500 from BKK-LAX in Royal Silk and if the plane is an Airbus A340 you can expect the new cocoon business class seats. The business class pricing in TG is not too bad and the service is Business Class is above US carriers standards, but is still not Singapore Airlines or Asiana. However, it is still a great flight.
One key thing to keep in mind is the complimentary jacuzzi, foot and leg massage or shoulder and head massage in the Royal Silk Lounge at BKK - but make sure to ask which one as there are so many Royal Silk clubs there it makes your head spin.
The airport at BKK is like a space port - nicely designed and one of new favorites in Asia.
I am not saying the service is bad, it is not, it is just during sleeping time some of the flight attendants seem to disappear. The AVOD in the business class seats is great, dependable and has a very good selection of movies and other things to keep you occupied during the long haul flight. The blankets and pillows are great and it was nice to see the return of the amenity kit - although the oversized lavatories are very well stocked with perfumes, colognes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs and etc....
Enjoy,

I know they are flying the 744, not 743, but 6 of the 744 has old business class, so is it still the case that I'll get the old First class seat if I book business class on the route?
This would surprise me as their would be only 14 business class seats on sale, and 50 Y+

Yes, they only have 14 C seats on that route. The model is called "7442" on this route.

Alittle offtopic but I hope someone could answer this for me, because it's been on my mind ever since I heard about the whole TG BKK-Scandinavia old config thing.
So, everyone's talking aobut yields all the time, so I was wondering how TG can be making money on the ARN/CPH-BKK flights when they sell 325 cheap economy tickets to mostly tourists and 50 economy+ and only 14 business tickets?
