looks like i'm not the only one reading about the mighty Wings first thing in the morning...

Any further updates? I'd guess it's out of the mud by now.

Does anyone have inside pictures of the plane? Curious about what kind of seats/layout/etc.

On that, I heard the the Dallas Stars have a very nice new plane with flatbed and lie-flats seats??

Go Wings!!

The Stars share that plane (a 757) with the Texas Rangers...both teams are owned by Tom Hicks, who also owns the 757.

It was only a matter of time for that one.

Hopefully their planes status will be a mirror of the season for them. (keeps fingers crossed)

What I wanna know is THIS: WHY in the WORLD would THEY LAND at St. Louis DOWNTOWN Airport  Confused  Wow! BLV I could understand, but I didn't think that Downtown Airport had enough runway to handle a DC-9

Runway 12R/30L is 6997 feet long, more than enough to handle a DC-9, especially one in a charter configuration.

I've seen team charter flights fly into SUS (Spirit of St. Louis) as well. They have a 5000' and a 7485' runway. I believe the Blues fly their charters in/out of SUS.

Interesting. I'd love to see what the inside looks like!

On the same note, hasn't NW retired their DC-9s already?  Wink

It's a 727. They keep it at Love. I've loaded it many times in STL. One side is painted in Stars colors, the other in Rangers. I think it's the Mavericks that have a 757.

Because it's more than enough runway to handle the aircraft, and it's about 10 minutes from downtown. They've gone there for years. You don't need a ton of fuel when you're only going to Detroit.

The Blues fly out of SUS on Midwest unless they're going to the west coast. Then they'll come to STL so the aircraft has the runway it needs.

Pilotpip: there was a piece on that airplane during a recent Stars telecast.....and the Stars/Rangers are now indeed trotting around in a 757. I recall seeing the old 727 on telecasts in the past. It would seem Tom Hicks is expanding his aviation horizons, but rest assured, they are now in a 757.

Cool, last time I was at Love before we ended service there the 72 was still there. It was a pretty nice setup.

CPS is literally right across the river from St. Louis. Where I used to work in south St. Louis on the Missouri side, I could watch the planes land across the river at CPS. KBLV is nearly half an hour outside of St. Louis.

As of the 10 'o clock news, the plane is still stuck. The Red Wings flew back to Detroit on a different, chartered flight.

I don't think they could get the whole team on Ilitch's G-II. Perhaps the G-II picked up some of the coaches and brass that may have accompanied the Wings...

This may have been it out of STL to DTW. USA Jet (callsign Jet USA) does operate pax charters too:

The team flew on USAJet, supposedly the owners of the team flew in to take a look at the plane. It's still at CPS waiting to get inspected.

Tom is correct - the "new" B757 (it was manufactured in 1983) was put into service after the Rangers season ended - when the Stars season began.

http://stars.nhl.com/team/app/?servi...age&page=NewsPage&articleid=340984

Click on the top picture / photo gallery for a good look at the plane.

CPS will not be too small a runway for the B757. I've had the pleasure of flying on the Dallas Mavericks B757 out of KADS when my company chartered the aircraft to take a lot of people up to Louisville KY for a day - for a major meeting. The runway at Addison is only about 225 feet longer than CPS.

both teams are owned by Tom Hicks, who also owns the 757.

FAA records list the owner of N757SS as - SOUTHWEST SPORTSJET LLC, Anchorage, AK
