As all of you know, as pilots we are now subject to random urine testing. Not only do we feel its an invasion of our privacy but mistakes can be made.
I know of one very high time pilot who tested positive for marijuana. Even though this pilot wouldnt know what pot even looked like, he was suspended and is now fighting for his job. Is this fair?
Should we be randonly tested for drug use?
We flew for decades without testing.
What are your thoughts??

Yeah, these random tests aren't the best way to prove anything. It's kinnda "convenience sampling", the technique which is less regarded in quantitative research.

As far as I know, pilots undergo regular health condition check-ups anyway. Like heart beat, pressure and so on. I wonder why can't they drug-test on the results of these. It's apparent that taking drugs affects overall health condition and that would be spotted easily... If not, then no worry: FLY! :).

A drug test should only be done as part of a rountine physical.

be something he ate. Nonetheless, he went through hell and back trying to prove what the problem was.

Certain foods are a problem. For example, poppy seed rolls cause a false positive for heroin. I'm not sure what would cause a similar situation for marijuana, but your friend may be able to find out. I'm sure it's not the first time this has happened.

I think this should not happen. Think about it why does a pilot need drugs if he flies.

Tell me when there was a crash because the pilots were on drugs! I don't think there was ever one. Once there is, then I might see why it is reasonable. Most pilots are too smart to do that crap.

Yeah, Ian is right. After all, pilots know what could happen as a consequence of being on drugs and they won't let it... They're on that plane, too.
