After arriving in FLL on my latest trip down there, I noticed that the CO Baggage Claim monitor was showing a flight 9350 (something around that) from Miami. Is this a real route, it would only be around 25 mi at the max, probably somewhere between 15 and 20 mi.?

Not sure about the flight you have mentioned.however, over the years several airlines have scheduled flights that stopped at both. I remember being on a United DC-8-71 that stopped in MIA for 40 min before the less than 20 min hop to FLL.

Yes, it looks as though they do. I went onto their site and looked for flights from MIA, to FLL. And they do. A ticket costs 345$, but here is the funny thing, it says that the flight connects in Tampa Bay! Isn't that funny? A flight MIA-Tampa Bay-FLL, quite the route for a short little jaunt. It says that total traveling time is around 2 h. 55m.

These are all codeshare Gulfstream International flights operating as Continental Express. Little turbo-props.

I think Gulfstream operates theese flights on Saturdays only. This is as of a couple of months ago. The thing is that they don't offer FLL-MIA service anytime. I don't know if anyone does.

Delta used to have a flight from MIA-FLL that left at about 1:50 am as a continuation of DL's 11:30 ATL-MIA flight, but their latest timetable shows that this service was discontinued in favor of a nonstop 11:something p.m. flight to FLL. I know these routes were operated with the 757, 767, and even the L1011, and probably others. I know cause I was on that late flight from ATL-MIA once and the aircraft was an L10, however this was an aircraft replacement as the 757 we were supposed to be on never showed up. From what I've heard it takes a total of 8 minutes to fly the 21 mile segment.

I would really love to see someone show up to check in at MIA with two big bags and have their final destination be FLL. I could just see the look on the check in agents face...

I remember Delta used to have a flight from PBI-FLL which is about a 40 minute car ride, that was a continuation from somewhere, and they used a 767 or a 757.

CVG-

It would make sense about the 1:50 am flight on DL MIA-FLL since FLL is a "mini-hub" for Delta-and they want to move the aircraft to FLL so it can have a full load in the morning.

Bucks-
That flight almost definitely came from ATL-most of their flights into FLL come from ATL.

There are still flight from MIA to FLL, though I can't recall the airlines. MIA and FLL are less than 40 miles apart. The flight is not even 15 minutes, much shorter. I do know someone who took that flight. He said it was up and then down right away. Most of it though is like Atlanta-FLL-Miami, etc.

You can also buy a ticket on Continental's flights from HOU-IAH (Hobby to Intercontinental, about 30 miles) or EFD-IAH (Ellington Field to Intercontinental, about 40 miles). Only $263.50 roundtrip!

Cheaper to go on Southwest and connect in Dallas...  Big grin

The flight you are referring too is a Continental Connection/Gulfstream Air flight which operates Nassau - Miami - Fort Lauderdale.

It also operates the other way around too....
