From my pilot friend at NWA: After fifteen years of the same basic design, NW will be launching their new flight attendant uniforms next month at a "runway" fashion show. The uniforms will be fully implemented in October 2008.

Many details (designer, etc.) are scarce (wasn't there a rumor once that Jean-Paul Gaultier was designing them?), but several key details are confirmed. First off, the current blue and red colors are out. In its place will be a charcoal suit and a choice of three matching shirts (gray, white, or checkered). IIRC, many of the components will be machine-washable, too. Don't be surprised if the FA wings get a change, too... after all, the current wings still have the 1989-2003 logo.

Does anyone else have any details?

Those uniforms are very old, so it's good to hear they are changing. I hope they look nice. But will there be any red on them at all? I mean, it sort of is NW's flagship color...

Old, maybe, but classic. Get too stylish and it won't work given the body structure of the FA's I encounter. Gisselle Bundshen they are not.

I saw a sample piece of the fabric today on desplay down at MEM inflight today. It was just a square, so no real example to go on other than fabric. There will be a fashion show at DTW on 12/12. Not sure if will be open to the public #ut imagine it will

Charcoal like the Compass FA Uniforms? Is NW setting up a FA flow through so all they need to do is change the undershirt color? Seems like NW wants to flow with all its regionals!

This is a brief description from an e-mail we just received.

Suits-
Charcoal suits and dresses with a woven birdseye pattern. Red jackets and dresses with the same fabric are designed for the Inflight Service Reps and Quality Service Agents.

Blouses and shirts-
Women's blouses and men's shirts come in three patterns: a check pattern that adds color; a textured pattern that adds depth; and a more casual, smooth pattern.

Scarves and Ties-
Will be designed in two unique patters that project a stylish take on the NWA brand image.

Nother US Airline getting a F/A uniform makeover!!! I love it!

But I wonder if anyone in the US will be able to out style DL's great uniforms!

AA need new ones.

I was in United Cafe at T1 today. JESUS! Their uniforms are just not at all nice anymore to me. Then for the first time I started seeing big heavy set F/A's. Can they fit in the jump seats??? They looked to tired, uniform just looks tired, this one BIG lady was hunched over?? UA won't see uniforms for a while I think. The ones they have are what...8-9 years old??

Huh? There's no FA flowthrough at NWA. Period.

Thought it would be nice to see NWA take the same approach as US when it comes to wholly owned regionals. Same uniforms would help give the "one carrier" idea that the regionals being painted the same colors as mainline does.

I look forward to seeing what these uniforms look like, but I must admit, it's almost a sin not to have red on it. It will be a strange day in my world when NW no longer has any trace of red except on those many Diesel 9s.

Could they have at least allowed a red scarf for the female F/As?

Though how do they get the charcoal into the fabric? They must put clothespins on the uniforms on the engines of a DC-9 when they manually pushback in DTW.

That would be. I can see it, one uniform, uniform wing design with different logos.

Would be sharp.

I totally AAgree on AA's uniforms... they've had the same core uniform design since 1984! And last time I checked, AA has "no plans to change", as they feel that the expenses would be better spent elsewhere.

Some of these F/A can make their uniforms work. When I was in T3 some of the F/A looked nice and will groomed. Now some others were just terrible. But AA could use a new change. They are the worlds largest airline1 I know money is an issue for them but they must be spiffy at all times lol.

Now I was just moved into T1 with United.....Jesus. Now why am I seeing F/A for United with strips like AA on their blazers and on others there are none?

AA and Eagle are currently in the process of designing new uniforms. I have no details on how they will look, except that the shirts will be a light blue and the wreath patterns will be gone. From what I have been told, the new uniforms will be introduced next year, other than that, I have no details.

The COmpass FA uniforms are of the same charcoal grey, but they have a blue blouse/shirt and the only red is in the wings. I talked to an FA who told me they're wearing only temporary scarves right now and the new ones should be arriving soon. I hope there is a hint of red... I too will be disapointed if the NWA FAs don't have some red in them. I would imagine that one of the 3 blouse/shirt styles will have red. It shouldn't be overdone, but just a hint for that splash of color would be nice.

Rumor has it that the Mesaba FAs will be getting new unis too... well over due as well.

Not according to my supervisor. He told me nothing has gone past the planning stage, we won't see anything new for at least 2 years, and that's being optimistic.

He told me they were looking at charcoal gray as well, so that crew members won't mix the old pieces with the new, and they were considering shirts and blouses in a burgundy color.

United's current uniform was implemented sometime in early 2002 if memory serves right. I like them still- better then CO, NW, and US (especially the HP ones- yuck!).

Both UA and AA have nice, classic uniforms in my opinion.

DL though- hands down the best uniforms. I think they look great!

While dishing on F/A uniforms we have to talk about US East uniforms. When PI and US merged in 1989 US was already in the uniform (two years I think) that they are still wearing now!

I've heard that West is working on new unis...let's just hope they give them something in this century!

(and I too hate to see the peek-a-boo red gone from NW's lapels. And to see a bunch of their F/As walking through the terminal in the red trench was really a great sight to see...)

I saw an NWA fa with a catalog of the new unis about a month ago in TGI Friday's. I only saw it over her shoulder, so I didn't get a real good look at it. NWAs uniforms are pretty crappy looking, but look at 9Es. The brown shirt and blue pants. yuck!!! Someone needs to come up with a better outer coat than the trenchcoat. I hate wearing the trenchcoat!!

RED RED RED RED RED

It seems almost every airline has some sort of either red, blue, or black in the uniforms. I think it's time for a change. I know US carriers want a more professional look for the FA's. Is there not a way to use other colors for a change other than red and blue and still make the uniform professional?

If NWA gets new uniforms and there is no red in them but they still look good, it would be a welcome change in my opinion.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that the CO uniform is nice? I always thought it looked classic.

As to NWA, it needs some red -- it is the signature of the airline for pity sake.

uniformfreak.com (which I think is run by an A.netter) has FA uniforms through the years (at it were).

I do like the new DL uniforms, but not all of them flatter every person. I think that is one issue w/any uniform -- trying to make it flatter as many people as possible.

If I had a vote, which I don't, I'd argue -- keep it classic and professional looking!!

25 Post contains links Davidlc3 : You are correct - I just found this link http://www.afausairways.org/Uniform/newuni.htm Have to admit - it is the biggest waste of fabric I have seen
26 Centrair : Paisley? Checkered? Yuck. I think having shirts with red pin stripes would be nice. White with a little red. Another thing would be red coats. If it
27 NWA757boy : There will be two sweater options, one of them will be red. The manager I was talking to wouldn't say the other color of the sweater but I have a fee
28 Kjet12 : Quite different than what my supervisors have told me. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Either way, it should be a nice change.
29 NWA757300 : Looks like the scarf/tie will have some red in it. I'm just curious to see what the shirts will look like.
30 SNCntry32 : I am with you on that one. I wish 9E had some better uniforms.. Dont get me started on the blue checkered shirt. Navy, gold or brow. Yuck... Rofl.
31 Bingo : Dont get me wrong. Next to the planes themselves I cant think of anything I'd rather take pictures of than beautiful FAs. Maybe its my "Daddy Gene" st
32 CRJ200FAGuy : Supposedly, we are allowed to wear any outer coat as long as it is black. I got this nice fleece lined waterproof black coat at the Stopover Store. I

34 SNCntry32 : Key word there, supposedly. I do anyways. I re red the manual about the uniform stuff, and well, nobody really complies with it nor does anyone enfor
