LVO @ AUH. EY Causing Madness At The Terminal.

For the past week or so we have suffered severe fog during night times at AUH, hence LVO has been activated. The past two days have been especially the worst.

Etihad has a major departure/arrival bank during the early hours of the morning and that has been severely affected, causing ALL flights to be delayed, up until this time indefinitely. This same scenario has been repeating almost every day this week causing the delays to ripple excessively accross the network.

The result has been extreme overcapacity of stranded passengers at the AUH satellite to the point that several people actually fainted yesterday. I believe AUH has never experienced something as insane as this in the past.

During all this time, a single Etihad duty manager has YET to be seen at AUH. All that's available are sales/reservation staff who have no clue which flight goes where and from which gate, because Etihad's attempts to minimize delays by over-shuffling the flights/aircraft around, have actually made matters so much worse. In fact, when asked, none of the EY staff know anything hence, passengers are left stranded at the terminal with no idea what is going on.

This is currently still going on.

My reason for posting this, is definitely not to put EY to shame, but to ask "what the hell is wrong with them?"

They've been around for 3 years now, so they should at least have gained some customer service experience, if not any know-how in handling delays.

Alot of flights were diverted to AAN then passengers bussed to AUH. The AUH-DUB flight is now due in at 2309 instead of 0635 this morning. I guess its bad luck.

You reported a lack of service Staff, there must also be a lack in Airport Equipment as well as in handling capacity!

I agree with you.

the current terminal is BY FAR too small (infrastructure and equipment) to handle EY's growth. And until T3 is up and running, the situation will probably get worse. There's no doubt about it.

As for the CAT3B, i know that AUH currently working on that at the moment.

At the same time, EY has been trying to squeeze in as many flights as they can into their banks. For some reason AUH has been allowing them to do that. AUH is also introducing a slot management system that EY doesn't seem to buy in to. Hence, EY keeps on adding flight after flight.

So the issue is in fact due to both AUH and EY. However, At this current moment, there are FAR more AUH duty managers trying to control the situation than there are EY staff.

Delays are expected until around 23rd. Passengers may rebook free of charge upto 31st March if they dont want the risk of being delayed. I guess people changing will assist EY in having to deal with less passengers and try to get back to normal once the Fog clears.

Its not just EY, KLM was stuck here for over 9 hours, as were two PIA, one Air India Express, 3 CI 744F, 1 AF 744F, and a WO MD11.

Some arrived before the fog, but then could not depart after it rolled in due to extreme low visibility. There was NO parking yesterday morning for anything arriving, planes were parked on taxiways and held out there in many cases for several hours. I watched a Shaheen 737 unload and load on taxiway Y, with a WO MD11 behind it, and two CI 744's behind that.


Its been pure hell. Thats all there is to it.

Yes i saw that plane. It landed in the midst of the heavy fog, but as soon as he got off the runway he stopped and remained in his position; all this without communicating with the control tower at all.

Today there doesnt seem to be any fog, although i havent one out yet. So hopefully that will help.
