An A380 Every Morning

How awesome is it to be working in and around Sydney, and every morning around 9.20am, see that bird glide out on the different tracks.

I still can't get over how quiet it is!!! Even a 744, or even a QF A-330 (or even a sardine-can A320) makes more noise, at the same altitude.

I made comment to a friend today.... "give it 24 months, and probably every 20th a/c out of SYD might be an a380......... perhaps I'm dreaming? but I can see it being that way eventually.

Cheers

Sure must be a sight to see! I personally have only seen it once when we were taxiing out in a 743 they were taxiing behind us in the A380...turned onto the runway and we were side-by-side.

I think eventually you'll have a great shot at seeing A380s from SQ, TG, MH, BA, VS, CX, QF, UA, EK, EY and CI.

In fact I think the only place you'll see more of them in LHR - KE, MH, TG, SQ, QF, VS, BA, EK, EY, QR, CI and more than likely AI, CX, MU, PK, and UA if they order them.

Chuck in 77Ws, loads of A340s of all four types, A330s and A350s from literally dozens of airlines, the odd 77L, some old timer 744s, and cargo 748is - the odd cargo MD11 as well - spotting sure is going to be a lot of fun!

What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Being on the inaugural flight out of Sydney on 26 October it was hard knowing when we actually rotated. In addition the plane has a quieter foot print than the 747-400. Singapore has done an amazing job with this airplane and the interior is fantastic.

Buy a ticket and head up to Singapore soon and take the 380. It will be a trip well worth it.

Cheers,

Am I correct saying that quads are typically quieter than twins? In this case, the A380 has to be the quitest of all as observed since it's the most recent of all.

loads of A340s of all four types

I'm afraid these may go away earlier than we hope. Especially the 342 (always been rare) and the 345 (nearly as rare).

When I doubt... go running!

The A345 will continue to be very handy for long thin routes, and as a international jack of all trades for airlines such as EK. No ETOS issues; medium-size, can do any route, though not always ideal.

That's pretty awesome. Around here, I get hyped up just seeing a Cessna fly over, let alone a contrail!

When is UA getting their A380's?

they arent...there is an obvious reason why....they arent flexible as to the type of missions they can fly.....what if the market in Asia tanks...then what?? Fly them where? Europe? ORD-LAX?? UA and most other US carriers want a plane with some flexibility. The A380 has nearly zero flexibility as to mission type.

Maybe someone can enlighten me, but as far as I can tell, United mainline currently has no aircraft on order from either Boeing or Airbus. And considering that production of aircraft such as the 787 and the A320 are now reserved for several years into the future, it does not look like United will be getting any new aircraft anytime soon.

United needs to make some money before they have to decide which planes are best for their long-haul fleet.

Wow, quite the up-gauge to replace those DC-9's!  duck

SYD will be one of the airports to see A380's by the score from multiple sources. Others are LHR, BOM, and LAX (not the complete list). When the A389 comes to pass... it just makes too much sense for the Kangaroo routes.  spin

RR and the engine alliance both worked very hard to get down the A380 noise (IIRC, RR has a quieter takeoff, but I don't have my notes here on the LHR QC levels. It might have been the quieter landing...).

Anyway .. just imagine DXB in 2015 with 70 something B777s, 70 A350s, 10+ B747-8s and 60+ A380s (perhaps incl. some 900's) landings and takeoffs everyday.
