Bral To Start GOT-MAN Route

BA franchise partner British Regional Airlines (BRAL) will launch a non-stop service MAN-GOT from the 25 March. BRAL, based in MAN, will operate daily except Saturdays using a 49 seat Embraer ERJ-145 jet. Departure from MAN will be 1245 and arrival at GOT 1540. The return leg will be flown at 1615, arriving MAN 1715 (all times local of course). SK had plans of starting a GOT-MAN service (operated by Skyways), but BRAL/BA/oneworld beat them to it. Finnair, also a oneworld member, operates flights from ARN to MAN (BA codeshares), as does Star member SK affiliate Skyways.

BRAL are obviously aiming to satisy the demand which warrants such a new service. When deciding on new destinations, they make an educated guess as to what flight will be profitable. If they assume it will be, then they'll more-than-likely proceed. As such, I imagine the MAN-GOT service will be successful, thus profitable, although not necessarily immediately.

I thing that Got will be a very good hub in the near future, because Cph and Arn are today on there peek.
Also Gothenburg based City Airline is going to start operations to feed other airlines out of Got.
Citys first new service will be Umeå and Lulet both cities in the northern part of sweden.

I think that this is great  . It´s nice to see GOT expanding. I hope that there will be even more new routes in to GOT in the future. And Gkirk, if they didn´t believe that the route would be successful in the future, I don´t believe that they would start it.

OK, what I meant is do you think the route will be so successful that an upgrade in frequency is required or a larger a/c.

Are you really serious when you write "I think that GOT will be a very good hub in the near future"???

How should Gothenburg become a hub? At the moment it's a small regional airport with 4 million passengers a year and with flights to a limited number of European destinations - mainly to the large hubs around Europe.

GOT is at the moment not a hub and will in my opinion never be it. I can't see an airline there have interests in making GOT a hub - SAS will for sure not and Skyways has dropped all international operations out of GOT. It's also a misunderstanding when you say that CPH is close to the limit. CPH had last year just over 300.000 movements on three runways. That's a bit away from the maximum and it's possible to extend the capacity by modifying the taxiways. ARN is also extending their capacity by adding a third runway.

No GOT will remain a local airport for Gothenburg and the catchment area around the airport. We will in the future without doubt see new routes and destinations out of GOT, but they will be a result of local demand.

Regarding City Airlines: AFAIK the target with the Umeå-Luleå-GOT service is to transport local passengers between the two cities and GOT. Only alternative at the moment is to transfer though Stockholm-Arlanda with SAS.

When an Airlines starts a new route they off cause expects it to be successful - but sometimes they are wrong!!! (Please note: I'm not saying that GOT-MAN isn't going to be successful)

Hmmm, a small plane like that on a route like GOT-MAN. Just doesn't seem right to me. Would have thought they'd need a larger aircraft. Oh well...

Most routes do not fair greatly in their first year off operation, but come good after that. We will have to see if the route is a success after a year. I would expect it to be a success however.

To SAS767 I think you are to patriotik when you say that GOT never going to be a hub, this is totally wrong.
CPH are afraid of loosing transfer pax from GOT thats why you say so. GOT is today a hub , but a small one For examlpe Skyways has connections from several swedish cities that feeds SAS out of GOT.
But the future will see if you are wrong
