Does anyone know the status of AirTran 717 Ship 710? Is it due for painting anytime soon? Last I saw it, it still had the original paint on it, or had minor touch-ups, but the registration font is the same as when it was delivered (whereas the repaints have a "rounder" font instead of the "block" font).

Ship #710 is one of 28 that have not yet recieved the new paint. All should be in the new colors by the end of next year. One minor change being phased in, though, is the replacement of the white tail number in the green area by larger, bolder blue tail numbers positioned higher on the white background.

Yeah I noticed that. I don't know why they even moved them to begin with. Ship 742 is the only one I know of with SMALL blue tail numbers in the white area. 743 and higher got white tail numbers in the teal area.
Ship 710 was the first 717 I ever flew on in June 2000, so that is why it kind of holds a special place in my heart. Then it was BRAND NEW!!! And I have just been curious as to why the window-exits are different, and why it hasn't recieved the new paint (when it is considerably older than Ship 728). If they do the paint by cycles/maintenance, then obviously 710 hasn't been used that much.

710 was delivered in 2000 which pit it into a heavy check in 2004 which could have been before the new livery was rolled out. Once it came out of check from Avborne FL wouldn't send it back to get painted until it was due for another check. Being 728 had a later delivery at it came up for check after the new livery was unveiled and therefore it got a new paint job.
Nice Trip Report!!! Great Pics, thanks for posting!!!! B747Forever

Ok, There is obviously few people who care about this, but I'm going to say it anyway.
If one takes a good long look at the Window Exits on Ship 710, and compare them with any other ship in the AirTran 717 fleet (and yes, you have to look at them in person, or if you want to admit it, it is different), 710 is THE ONLY ship that has the outline painted on the exterior fuselage, and not the window exit itself. Now, I know that when I saw this aircraft in 2002, it had the window exits painted on the hatch themselves, and in 2003, that had all changed, leading me to believe that this aircraft was either repainted, or had something done to it. Now, if you go and look at any other repainted aircraft, the font used for the registration is different. Instead of the "Square" font used during delivery, it is a "roundish" font. But 710 seemed to have kept the "squarish" font. The Nose Gear doors however got the new font. I know my eyes are not playing tricks on me, as I have done LOTS of research on this.
I remember seeing a post on this a while back. I believe it had to do with the paint shop in MIA (?) receiving the wrong specification/not painting the aircraft correctly.
