Great! A perfect reason to get rid of the high fuel surcharges. ( Not only KL/AF btw..)

Everytime I see an oilcompany announce massive profits I wonder why the fuel prices are that high..  Smile

Well, the profits are that high because of high fuel prices. That's cause and effect in this case, it really would be strange to have high profits and therefore high fuel prices. Fuel prices aren't dictated by production costs, but both political and economic factors. The price to produce a barrel of oil hasn't significantly risen over the last year, the oil price did. There's your extra profit margin.

Last few times KLM was the big moneymaker ( compared to it's size ) What's the breakdown between KL and AF this time?

amazingly small interest for a record result ,considering all airlines have to operate in a quite hostile envirenment (rise in kesosine-price,economical struggles..)
It's a brillant achievement for AF/KLM and the team Spinetta-Van Wijk are doing a great job (of course all employees do bear their fair part in the merit !

I can't give specifics but relatively speaking it still swings in KLM's favor. They have really put into place an efficient and streamlined organization, both prior to the merger and in the time since.

passage of interview to FT by AF's General Manager :
"Air France managing director Pierre-Henri Gourgeon told this news service last week that Alitalia is potentially more attractive to the French airline than Iberia, adding that the airline has hired an investment bank to study the Italian deal, but not the Spanish one."

Good for them. glad to see that everyone is doing well this quarter (and hopfully though the rest of next year). I just hope they pass some of this along to the passengers and employees.
