So does the 767-200er really have a longer range than both the 763er and the new 764? If so why is the 762er used for shorter flights than the other two?

Yes, the 767-200ER does have a longer range than the 300ER has because it has the same wing design and fuel capacity with a lower maximum take off weight, but I'm not so sure about the 400ER because that one has a different wing design. The 200ER's aren't always used on shorter flights than the other two, it just depends on the load factors, in other words if a flight operated on a 300ER or 400ER never gets that many passengers the airline will swith it to a 200ER. American used to fly from Chicago to Brussels with the 200ER, with maximum fuel the 200ER can fly over 6000NM nonstop!
Hope this helps.
