Unless something has changed that I have not heard, you cannot fly as a revenue passenger on a foreign carrier between two US destinations. Of course, if you are a nonrev, all bets are off and this would be a great idea. I have a friend who often has business at LAX and can nonrev on the KAL 744 flight from DFW. He loves it because it is always nearly empty and the cocktails are free and easily obtainable from a flight crew that has yet to be beaten down by a long trans-Pacific flight.

Stay off the NWA DC-10!!! Haha, sorry. My last flight with them was a nightmare from SFO-MSP. On take off the overhead bin above my head opened and I was smashed in the head with a bag. Not a pretty sight. There were many more, significantly more serious problems with the flight that didn't have to do with the aircraft but I wont bore you with those, but still avoid that DC10.

If you cannot get on Qantas, take National (first class if you can). I was really impressed with them. From MSP-SLC, take the NW 727, from SLC-JFK take Jet Blue, and from LAX-MSP, the NW DC-10 all the way. Just for info, I took a CO DC-10 flight from IAH-LAX and it was great, so just a push for DC-10 service right here.
