VASP finishes reorganization and plans future

"VASP, second Brazilian airline, is already prepared to face the challenges of the next millenium. Reorganized, financially and administratively, it is prepared to retake its activities in the regional market, paralyzed in the decade of 70, for force of a governmental law, and to extend its slice of participation in the domestic market.
The intention of Wagner Canhedo, president of the company, is to create the regional " VASP Express " and to no longer initiate the operation of the new company first semester of 2001, effecting flights right-handers between the capitals and main cities of the country and the South American continent. For this, VASP is promoting the final rightnesss for the acquisition of 20 ERJ-145 jet, with capacity for 50 places, and more 30 units for 70 passengers ERJ-170 in 2002."

This is part of a report on Vasp´s web site. Unfortunately is not available in english..

Will these really happen????? I have my doubts..
Comments????

I want to know what will happen to them when the governemnt illegally funds this purchase....This is obviously a brand new order, and they have been ordered not provide the illegal subsidies on new orders...but we all know they will...it's a shame that they do not realize that they are making themselves look very very very bad infront of the world, by demonstrating that they are not yet ready to be part of or succeed legaly in a first world economic system.

Didn't they drop all their Int'l routes because they were bleeding money? I wonder where they got the money for this order....

Good point WateWate, I was thinking the same thing.
I highly doubt that they are going to be able to order that many planes..that is VASP'S pipe dreams. I could believe an order of maybe 10 or 20, but 50 is rediculous. I say VASP should merge with one of the brazilian carriers...besides VASP's reputation in Brazil isn't that great anyways.

Dear Slawko,

You shoul at least know what you're talking about. The whole mess with Bombardier and Canada was a dispute about export subidies. If this purchase ever happens it will be from a brazilan company to another brazilian company, so no exports involved.

Try to inform yourself well. Do not make comments based on average knwolege or someone else's words.

Dear Slawko

Please be better informed before make ridiculous comments...

I know that your dream is a world with just one Regional Jet Manufacturer: Bombardier!!! But forget about this!!!

The market is big enough to support 2 or 3 main players... And Embraer will continue to sell its Jets... Hold and you will see new ERJ orders and new CRJ orders too...

And who are making themselves look very very very bad infront of the world???
The Brazilian Government who make some adjusts to Proex, in order to match WTO rules, os the Canadian Government, who now is supportind illegaly the Bombardier on the Air Wisconsin contract...

Slawko, please get used to see CoEx ERJ's landing and taking-off from Toronto...

I was hoping they would buy CRJ from Bombardier. Now that would be funny.

I'll make Vector's words mine.

Regarding VASP ordering the Erj-145,,,, i'd say that could happen, but obviously they won't get more then 10 or something around that.

I's good to remember that VASP still flies domestic flights around Brazil. I don't know if they are doing any cuts in their domestic network though, at least here in Vitoria(VIX), that i know VASP maintained its flights to SSA and CNF.

Best Regards

Neo

VASP has been through a tough time since the drop of international routes, but they seem to be recovering from it.

another part of the report:

Wagner Canhedo, VAsp´s president and owner.

" We come back to fly in Brigadier General sky and go to assume the leadership in the domestic market in the next years ", declares Canhedo. He has reasons for the objective. Since October of the last year the company was submitted to a sanitation process, with the enxugamento of the administrative machine, the temporary lock of the international operation, the repact of the liabilities with the adhesion to the Refis, and I redesign it of the domestic aerial mesh.
The success of the initiative already could be proven in the gotten positive result in the rocking of the six first months of 2000. But, other factors had also influenced in the retaken one of the growth for VASP. The process of reorganization, managed for professionals of the company and external consultants, was determinative for its success.
Exactly with the favorable conjuncture, the company raised in 7% its participation in ranking of the national airlines, arriving 24,4% (given preliminary of the DAC of the September month). Valley to stand out that, according to spreading the results of the research carried through recently on the companies " Top of mind ", the VASP is the second remembered company in Brazil. " and this is fruit of our attractive fares politics and the quality of our jobs ".
Moreover, thanks to the otimização implemented in the mesh and the maintenance of one aggressive fare politics that keeps discountings up to 40% in all the destinations operated for the company. " VASP bet very in the heating of the national market before the same types. As much that, in passed August, already we had our ready spread sheet for the launching in the market and without restrictions of stated periods for the purchase. And we made it ", pointed the entrepreneur.
Amongst the modifications implemented in the mesh since 1999 they are distinguished it creation of flights between São Paulo and the cities of Ribeirão Preto and São Jose do Rio Preto, in the São Paulo inward, increment of frequencies in operated destinations already, beyond the new pluggings between the capitals of the regions Northeast and Center-West to the Manaus.

Greetings,
Dellatorre
