VASP finishes reorganization and plans future
"VASP, second Brazilian airline, is already prepared to face the challenges of the next millenium. Reorganized, financially and administratively, it is prepared to retake its activities in the regional market, paralyzed in the decade of 70, for force of a governmental law, and to extend its slice of participation in the domestic market.
The intention of Wagner Canhedo, president of the company, is to create the regional " VASP Express " and to no longer initiate the operation of the new company first semester of 2001, effecting flights right-handers between the capitals and main cities of the country and the South American continent. For this, VASP is promoting the final rightnesss for the acquisition of 20 ERJ-145 jet, with capacity for 50 places, and more 30 units for 70 passengers ERJ-170 in 2002."
This is part of a report on Vasp´s web site. Unfortunately is not available in english..
Will these really happen????? I have my doubts..

I want to know what will happen to them when the governemnt illegally funds this purchase....This is obviously a brand new order, and they have been ordered not provide the illegal subsidies on new orders...but we all know they will...it's a shame that they do not realize that they are making themselves look very very very bad infront of the world, by demonstrating that they are not yet ready to be part of or succeed legaly in a first world economic system.

Good point WateWate, I was thinking the same thing.
I highly doubt that they are going to be able to order that many planes..that is VASP'S pipe dreams. I could believe an order of maybe 10 or 20, but 50 is rediculous. I say VASP should merge with one of the brazilian carriers...besides VASP's reputation in Brazil isn't that great anyways.

You shoul at least know what you're talking about. The whole mess with Bombardier and Canada was a dispute about export subidies. If this purchase ever happens it will be from a brazilan company to another brazilian company, so no exports involved.
Try to inform yourself well. Do not make comments based on average knwolege or someone else's words.

I know that your dream is a world with just one Regional Jet Manufacturer: Bombardier!!! But forget about this!!!
The market is big enough to support 2 or 3 main players... And Embraer will continue to sell its Jets... Hold and you will see new ERJ orders and new CRJ orders too...
And who are making themselves look very very very bad infront of the world???
The Brazilian Government who make some adjusts to Proex, in order to match WTO rules, os the Canadian Government, who now is supportind illegaly the Bombardier on the Air Wisconsin contract...

Regarding VASP ordering the Erj-145,,,, i'd say that could happen, but obviously they won't get more then 10 or something around that.
I's good to remember that VASP still flies domestic flights around Brazil. I don't know if they are doing any cuts in their domestic network though, at least here in Vitoria(VIX), that i know VASP maintained its flights to SSA and CNF.
