Both countries plan to increase frequency on the IKA-PEK route from current twice weekly to five and launch service from Shanghai with seven weekly flights as well in a recently concluded .

Iran Air and China Southern operate the routes at present but other carriers from the two are included in the deal.

Slight correction. IR's Tehran-Beijing service departs from Mehrabad, THR, not IKA

Since mid November all international services of local and foreign airlines have been moved to IKA, Mehrabad only handles Hajj flights now as well as domestic servcies.

According to the schedules, the IR flight still departs Mehrabad

Does CZ operate to Iran? When did they start?

Will IR still be using SPs, or will they switch to A310s or A300-600s? The PEK-IKA route should be well within the range of the A300-600R, probably better cargo capacity than the 747SP; A310-300s could probably do PVG or CAN?

You are right, however all airlines were to transfer international flights to IKA by mid November.

CZ started Tehran in August 2006, twice weekly 757 via Urumqi, equipment was changed to 737-700/800 in winter 2006, they are also seeking permission to start nonstop PEK-IKA.

Iranair still do almost all their flying from Mehrabad. I was there a week and a half ago, and all the IR 747s were flying from THR. Meanwhile IKA has finally kicked in with all the international carriers, so the terminal (which is very spiffy) at night looks like Bangkok or somewhere, you've got yer AF / LH / EK / Etihad A330s, LH A330, BMI / AZ / OS / etc A320s, 321s, Ariana 727, some 154s (Kish Air, Caspian), the Blue Sky 747s (two -400s and a -300 I think), and some Iranair A310s (which may not be flying at the moment). I guess Iranair will move next. I would love the domestic stuff to move to IKA (although Mehrabad has much more character and is right downtown) so I could get on a 707 down a jetway from an ultra modern terminal. Domestic flights from Mehrabad use buses out to the domestic flightline and you go up stairs to board. Alas it looks like the Iranian 707s will be grounded in March, too soon to fly domestic from IKA.

fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

The fact that IR 747 (100B,200,SP) are still operating from THR is probably due to the presence of IR and Fajr Ashyan maintenance there. These aircraft are long on teeth.
