Current Status Of CO 752 PTV Upgrade?

Hi, folks.

I just booked my annual nonstop pilgrimage from ANC to IAH nonstop on the 757-224. Sadly, Houston didn't grow any closer to Anchorage in the past year, and so the flight is still a tiresome 7.5 hours in duration.

So I wonder how the upgrade to AVOD in Y class is going? How many aircraft have been completed?

...I suspect DutchJet knows the answer...

Thanks,
Randy

There is 1, AFAIK. The second one is being done right now, IIRC. But since all I can offer is acronyms, someone might have better information.

No, it doesn't. It's a snapshot in time, not an answer forever. The 757 fleet will not remain at 1 bird forever, so the question was what is the CURRENT status of the upgrade.

I believe the second one is being finished right now. It takes a while due to the new seats and the AVOD. Someone said 20 days IIRC.

But others will know more.

Clearly, you know not whereof you speak.

Dutchie is the source for all things CO. EWRCabincrew is (and he knows how much I respect him, because I have told him so in the past) also a good source.

I just worked a flight from BRS to EWR on the 2nd. Our a/c was the ship that was already completed. Let me tell you, it really does make a difference for the passengers. They seemed to enjoy it. No lines for the bathrooms either. People pretty much stayed in their seats and played with the avod. I'm so happy we are investing in it. Not to mention that it makes the interior of the a/c seem more luxurious.

I wish I was able to get one on my IAH-LAS-IAH runs at the end of this month. Thats like a 1 in 40something chance - lol.

Here I am! hyper

Ship 114 is in heavy check at IAH and is having Y class AVOD installed at the same time. It is scheduled out on 12/14.

Ship 104 is tentatively scheduled for AVOD install here in MCO on 12/14 for a 13 day hold. Ship 105 is scheduled after 104 is completed.

There are no other 752s scheduled after 105 is completed but I'm sure that will change after the new year.

Looks like, by the 29th, I will have a 3 in 41 chance.
Doesn't look promising.

Which is the ship that's already done? With pictures on that OTHER website?

Your chances will increase as the year goes by. Judging by this December's workload it looks like we will be installing Y class AVOD on 2 to 3 A/C a month for the next year. Don't hold me to that because things change around here on a daily basis.

Ship 130.

If you check with IAHcsr he can give routing info.

Actually, we in MCO believe MX757 is working the terminal, line maintenance, he is not here in the north hangar where the retrofits will take place on the MOD line. The schedule is correct, but we have heard there may be a delay till after the holidays, needing the aircraft for the heavy loads coming.

If you read the post you reference, it is not necessarily current even though it was posted on the 5th, nor is it providing the status of the program. It is an explanation of what CO offers across the fleet. But the statement that there is only 1 plane with AVOD front to back is only half true even today. Another is due any day, so if someone wants to know a specific answer, like "will there be AVOD on X date" then they would need more than "ship 130 has it on Dec 5th."

Since he hadn't told us when his trip was, it could be anywhere from 1 plane to 41...  Wink

I'm flying one 752 on the 22nd and one on the 2nd (both domestic runs), so it would seem I would have a bit more than a 10% chance in getting one of the birds on that trip.

But since I'm flying F, I will absolutely have it at my seat anyway. I'll try to remember to see if the Y section of my planes have it.

Quoting STT757 (Reply 16):

Those units seem to be just about the biggest CO could fit in their style 17.2" Y seat. Should make the 777/767 customers jealous.

I think the screens in Y are even bigger than those in BF, though they are also further away from the eyes.

My Wife and I flew Business First from MCO-EWR back in May, we had the AVOD which kept both of us busy the whole flight. I watched the Simpsons and various music videos and my Wife watched episodes of Entourage.

Indeed. You can argue all you want to about how ridiculous IFE is, and that a person should just look out the window or bring a book... but for those of us on a 7-hour flight at night, over a lot of water, and who can't sleep on planes very successfully, IFE is a great feature.

I'll be on CO 286 (ANC-IAH) on 1/4 in Y; According to the seat maps, the flight is already almost sold out. If I luck into the 752 with IFE, I'll be a very happy CO Silver  Smile

CO wanted $1400 RT for ANC-IAH going nonstop both ways in coach, so I broke my return a few days later into CO 1739 (IAH-SEA) on a 752, connecting to CO 667 up to ANC. I decided to give myself a treat and booked First Class on CO 1739, almost solely because I wanted to try the BusinessFirst product on the 752. Can't wait.

Wow, you and I have very similar itineraries, though on different dates.
I am actually continuing to Dallas- Love...
But I'll do nonstop ANC-IAH on the 29th, and then IAH-SEA in BizFirst on the 752 on 1/7. Sadly, all that was left was connections on Alaska Scarelines, so I'll do SEA-ANC on a 739... in coach....

I am SERIOUSLY hoping for an elite upgrade on the ANC-IAH sector... right now, 12 seats open.
