Alright, I decided this need it's own thread because there's so many things to talk about. Basically, there have been a lot of changes to the DL schedule in February during race weeks. Obviously, this isn't really a big surprise - as it was looking like they had way to many seats available anyway. But I've been wondering if this is due to the fact that US is adding flights, even up to 6 daily before and after race day. Could DL be adjusting their schedule thinking that they will not be able to sell as many seats now? Here is a quick overview of the major changes:

-The 757s have been cut way back, and is now as follows:
--One daily turns 2/14, 2/15, 2/16 (as compared to 2x before)
--One overnight 2/17 (same as before)
--Two turns 2/18 (as compared to 5 before)

-A few more CR7s and M88s then before, to fill in for the 757s.

-No CLT flights before the race, but one after the race is still in place.

-Some CRJ flights to CVG (via Comair), for the race, have been switched to CR9s or CR7s.

-The daily CR9 flight to LGA (via Comair) that was starting 2/14 is now a CRJ until 3/2 when it finally turns into the CR9.

-The weekend CRJ flight to CVG (via Comair) remains, but for some reason it has an hour and a half turn time.

To see more details on times and such, see the link in my profile, then click on All Schedules. (notice the tabs at the bottom of the window for each airline)

Related to non-DL schedules...

FL...I've finally figured out FL's schedule, with the whole LGA flight. Originally I had thought it was an overnight, because of the initial times announced. But now looking at their schedule, I've determined that the LGA flights will either come from LGA go to ATL, or the other way around. These flights start 2/14, along with an addition flight, which is an overnight. This will bring FL to 3x daily flights, 2 turns and 1 RON. Before that happens though, FL picks up the 2nd daily flight on 1/8.

CO...I noticed Continental has not added any extra flights for race weeks. At least not what I could find. Anyone find something?

US...And of course, US remains unchanged for the moment, as they just set it up a few days ago.

Yeah, we talked about that in US Restarting DAB (by RL757PVD Dec 3 2007 in Civil Aviation)
This thread was mainly to talk about the changes since the initial schedules, but thanks for including that info in here.

The origional DL schedule was WWWAAAAAYYYYYYY above and beyond ANYTHING they have done in years past. Past few years it was been an extra 3 MD88/738 the day after the race and thats it. US's announcement and published schedule for the day after also probably had alot to do with it since DL will have a hrder time pulling the Carolina face fan flyers where US has a better market share.

DL's raceweek sched is still far mroe robust than years prior. Ive already sent and e-mail to my former collegues down there to remind them that their current 2x checkpint lanes wont be enough that day!

So far:
DL 1395 seats
US 856 seats
FL 468 seats (perhaps they will add an ATL or change to 737s as the dates get closer)
CO 105 seats (id be very suprised if it stays this low, but with the new LGA service, it might)

Total = 2824 departing seats, that might be an all time DAB record for departing pax in one day. (im assuming they will be full)

Now... you have 2 checkpoint lanes = 1412 each, and divide over a 12 hr span and thats 118 per lane per hour, thats going to be tight! Probably the demand will be there for 200 per lane per hour in the 7am-noon timeframe. There is apce for a 3rd lane, lets hope they can gt one installed by then!

Thanks for the seat counts, RL.

I think switching them out for 737s would be a good idea.

Probably. Definately going to be a fun day.

Coincidentally or intentionally, race week is also the start of Allegiant's spring schedule at SFB. Many of their routes see a frequency increase that week which continues through the spring break periods in March.

Why mention it?, Allegiant books its Daytona Beach packages through SFB.

I wish CO would bring back the CLE-DAB service, it was always full.

Also besides the checkpoint, i wonder if they have the baggage screening capacity, hopefully they have some extra ETD machines available.

It is in the scheds as sat only all spring

From what i recall, they did ok during the spring season when they had it daily in 2004. They can probably support a daily From Feb 15-May 1, then Sat/ Sun May-Aug then Sat only Sept-Jan.

I would like to see CO do 2x DAB-IAH ERJs

Hopefully fares come down with all this extra capacity. $450/RT LAS-DAB is too much for my blood..even if it is the Daytona 500.

Right now they only have one machine, but room for another one. Some reason, I doubt that they'll get a second one in time for the race, but we'll see.

Id be shocked if that would happen in time. The 2nd machine would be good now with FL and US being able to use that one so that it all doesnt come out on one belt

US's arrival might in fact allow DAB/TSA to get another one installed since TSA staffing and equipment has to be tied to passenger traffic. If not, that weekend might become a complete disaster.

Have you seen the new system? All the bags go into one TSA room, then they can be split into two machines (but just one for now). Each machine line feeds onto the main carousel outside the room then. Then they just go round and round until someone picks them up.

I havent seen the carousel, when did they add that? Prior to that it was just a conveyor to nowhere.

I also wonder if US will have a baggage service office, those things seem to be a thing of the past, heck the company i work for is currently using one of the vacant baggage service offices at DAB for a field office... might even be the former US one...lol

Construction started in February and it started running in August I think. I can't even remember exactly. Yea, the old belt to nowhere is gone, along with the metal tent. The carousel is a snake belt, but at waist height. And the belt system through TSA and where it comes out to the carousel has multiple smart sensors that holds bags so they run into each other. It's a much nicer system then what we were using.
