Will these come off lease from CX?

Exceptions confirm the rule.

Hainan seems to have some ambitious growth plans. They've just taken delivery of their first A330-200; where will they be flying the widebodies to?

Not much time left to fly on the CX aircraft!

I know they're talking A330, but I'd love to see this operating PEK-SEA this summer if the route gets its approval.

IIRC, they'll use them for their (relatively far) charter destinations, such as Hurghada or the Canaries, just like AY.

Looks like Air Berlin wil be the largest European operator of the 787 with 25 purchased and 3 leased! I wonder why they didn't exercise some of their options?

Exercising options would not give them as early deliveries as ILFC ones?

I think you're right as AB is getting it first 787 from Boeing ins 2013 and the first leased 787 from ILFC in 2011 so exercising options would be for slots after 2013.

Absolutely! Great to see a new operator of the looong and beautiful A340-600, though not a new costumer.. CX has obviously decided to turn the A346 page. Welcome to the 77W!

Nope, 735 is currently their largest. Quite a jump to the 757. Maybe they will be used to Almaty and Yerevan.

CPH could probably fill the 757, maybe HEL and ARN as well.

BJ

On another note, is it just me or is the the 77W the new 'long one'? It seems a little longer than the A346.

The 77W is a little shorter than the A346. The latter is 75.362 meters long, compared to 73.86 meters for the 77W. The 748 will be the new long one, at 76.3 meters.

The fat long sausage (773) perhaps CX nowadays regretfully gets? Though I would prefer the 744 anytime.

I respectfully disagree. The Hainan colours are among the better liveries from "Red" China. If looking for a bad Chinese livery, see the flag carrier with their ancient dull colours scheme, or China Northern.

Yes, these are the ones from CX, I was given the option to sell them for 5 year leases a few months ago... We tried to sell them off to Sri Lankan and a few other airlines. These units are the ones with the weight issues and it never materialized. I am happy that a sale has gone through for those. I never thought they will ever find a home...the way the offers were going...the lease prices were quite cheap on these units as well. Right now I am pushing 4 a340-500's...for a few airlines as well...they are new and are being sold...for a good price as well...

You mean the the same 77# that's beating the sales pants off the A346? Yeah they're regretting buying it! NOT!

I agree, those white liveries with the typical color-on-tail-and-tip-of-fuselage-only are disgusting designs. Zero class or elegance. Chinese airlines have very sharp liveries but some are starting to get the ugly and boring eurowhite lookalike schemes.

The A346 looks best when the fuselage has color like in Cathay, China Eastern, Iberia. This plane isn't exactly "pretty" to begin with, so it needs all the help lol

The A346 is even complicated to photograph on the ground, if one is too near the plane comes out bent, nevermind the egines appear as big as the fuselage if one doesn't give it enough distance.  thumbsdown  Definitely not going to cry about airlines getting rid of it Big grin

I wish major airlines were still operating large numbers of A342s and A343s though, those are graceful quads  camera

Their first own 787 are due in 2013 and the ILFC aircraft will arrive two years earlier. Some leasing contracts for their A330s are expiring in 2011 and they want to replace them with 787s. So far AB is the largest European 787 customer but AF/KLM and LH have not decided whether they want to order the A350 or 787 and their orders will very likely be larger (incl. options). Also BA will likely order more as they have not decided on how to replace the rest of their 747 fleet and their older 777s so the 787-10 is a hot candidate here although they stated to be interested in the A350-900R and the A350-1000.

Err... The Boeing 737-500 isn't being manufactured new anymore... For quite a while now by the way. So these planes are used planes.

Cheers!  wave

My bad.  footinmouth  I got it confused with the 736, which is also not getting any new order.
