Judging from the red on its tale, I would guess it's a Qantas bird.  Wink

The pattern of plugged windows (revealing the airline-specific location of galleys, cabin crew rest, etc.) confirms this. I've never seen a photo of a Qantas A380 with a white tail before, but it is possible that the new logo is being applied. The first couple of Qantas airframes were built with the old logo on the tail, well before the logo was changed, and were undergoing rewiring when that change occurred.

I don't work for Airbus, but I'm betting 99% that it is for Qantas. QF is scheduled next in line to receive an A380 after Singapore SQ gets their third aircraft. I heard that Qantas wants to be first to service North American with their SYD to LAX.

Considering that SQ has a 49% ownership in Virgin Atlantic, it would be even nicer if they would share two delivery slots and allow Virgin to offer JFK to LHR service next year or early 2009....."Maybe Sir Richard Branson, President of VS should arrange a dinner meeting with Mr. Chew Choon Seng - SQ's CEO".

Nice try! Seems, you like to see these birds (or better, to fly with them).

Virgin??? No way, they deffered their deliveries and some here even doubt they'll get the A380, at least the A388 series.

As for the red stuff, as far as I know it's a protective film and not any paint matching the future livery.

If you look at a painted A380, you can see the areas just below and above the horizontal stabilisers are not painted, or at least they don't look it, most likely protected with that red film, until some coating is applied. Same with other Airbus widebodies too: A330, A340.

I'm not sure why it isn't painted; those areas recede into the fuselage so it may be that the region needs to be linear instead of curved to allow the stabiliser to fit into place, if someone could clear the ambiguity that'd be great.

I saw the same A380 at TLS in May 2007 and took a good look at it. It did not have the msn applied to the different sections as other unpainted ones did.

I doubt it. Your red protective film has a white cut-out right where the leg of the kangaroo would go (this being the old kangaroo, not the new kangaroo). You can see it better in another photo linked from Wikipedia; click on F-WWSK under MSN014:

This might indeed be the same aircraft... the photo IAD787 linked is from May 2007, the new logo was unveiled in July 2007, and the photo linked above from Wikipedia is from August 2007. Or it could be of another Qantas aircraft.

EK, QF and SQ each have different window patterns. This one is consistent with QF and only QF, so there is no reason to speculate that it is for any other airline than QF.

The uniform brown colour which covers the usual patchwork of green/brown primer is also un-usual.
The fact that the fin is not painted, differing from all other A380 to be delivered to airlines so far, may indicate that it is the first VIP one (wild guess, but Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud is certainly an important enough customer to make airlines wait a bit more).

Wasn't he supposed to take delivery of his A380 relatively soon, despite placing his order only now?
Wonder who's frame he took over...

According to the Airbus press release, HRH took an A380 with RR engines (of course... what else but a RR?) , so a look at the engines on this frame may already eliminate this option...
