ASA Overwater Routes

I've noticed that ASA operates a lot of overwater routes. I know for a fact that they have life vests, but do they have life rafts? ASA operates to PLS,CZM,BZE most of those routes are over a good amount of water(100+mi from closest land) Are their CR7 etops rated? Are these flights doozys?

ATL-PLS 1104 MI

No life rafts but we do have life vests for all 70 seats. We are able to stay well within range of numerous airports in the event of a diversion. I've actually flown the ATL-PLS-ATL run and it's a long one!!

Not sure but it's possible.

Looks like DL mainline is taking over our ATL-GDL and Shuttle America will take over our ATL-BJX in '08. Not sure where we'll end up in '08 but I'm hoping we'll see some CR9's join the fleet soon.

Remember that ETOPS only applies if the aircraft will be flying more than 60 minutes from a diversion airport. So doing a rough calculation, if a CRJ is moving at an estimated 500 kts GS, then it could potentially go up to 500 nm away from an airport.

ATL-MID on ASA was a LOT of over water flying. I think DL discontinued this route, though.

Well that good to know but I know for a fact not all seat can be use due to W&B issue.

Actually it is single engine, normal cruise speed with anti-ice at 10,000ft and no wind. But using your 500nm above you could theoretically go 1000nm as you would then be within 60min of an airport. 60min in one direction and 60 in the other.

Rafts are reuired if going more then 50 miles from the shore line. However some airlines get exemptions in the warm waters to go 162 miles from shore without rafts.

You are correct, it is with one engine only. But what you said about being 1000nm is the same thing as what I was saying, just in a different way. I said you could go 500nm away from an airport, which included being 500nm from an airport in front of you.

I have just heard comments about poor loads for DL ATL-SAP 5x weekly and DL ATL-MGA 7x weekly.
The usage of the CR7 on these routes should be considered as a possibility in order to match the demand of passengers and cargo with the proper airplane.
The distance ATL-GDL is practically the same compared with ATL-MGA.
