PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Saudi Arabian Airlines has firmed up an order for 22 Airbus A320 jets, Airbus said.

The agreement allows the airline, also known as Saudia, to increase the order by eight further A320s, Airbus said.

The order was first announced last month at the Dubai air show.

Now it is clear why SV has put its MD-90 fleet up for sale. Should mean that the leasing deal has been signed as well.

Flipping heck - does John Leahey want to go off on holiday early and is trying to get everything signed as quick as possible - the orders keep coming.

I hope he won't go skiing though, as I think Mr Leahy will have a stiff hand from signing all firm contracts before the end of this month.

On a side note:
anybody know where the SV MD-90s are heading to?
I've learned they have a unique cockpit, so I take it they are very difficult to sell off.
Will they go straight to the desert? (Ironic, as they have been there for their entire life technically speaking   )

Should mean that the leasing deal has been signed as well.

For those who don't recall SV also stated that they would lease an additional 20 x A320s. 10 from GECAS, which will come from pre-existing orders and 10 from Gulf One (a subsidiary of a Saudi Invesment Bank). The 10 from Gulf One will be a new order for the A320.

I do not have a link so I shall offer my opinion. SV is marketing them in conjunction with Airbus and may end up taking some of those frames as part of the deal. Again, just my opinion.

Congrats to Saudi and Airbus. Could this be a sign that Saudi are ready to get some A350s over 787s?

To me the A350s seem to fit better for replacing Saudi's 767, 777 and 747 fleet, allowing for growth except with the 747s!

The official announcement of the order is now on Airbus' website:

I take it the Gulf One order for 10 more A320s for lease to SV is going to be firmed up in the coming days too then?

Seems like December will be the month for Airbus to firm up a great number of deals which have been announced over the past months: 1,500 firm orders for this year seem to be within reach for Airbus!!!!

An even better fit for the A350 replacing 777s!!! hehe...I just always assumed that Saudi operated 762ERs, but I guess those were 772ERs!! oh well!! Thanks for the correction!
