One of my friends is going from Detroit to Miami for some conference and is wondering whether to take Northwest of American. Both offer nonstop flights, so that is not an issue. What would you do?

Northwest has old planes and poor service but if your friend lives in the Detroit area Northwest would be the way to go if they want frequent flyer miles since Northwest practically owns DTW. If your friend doesn't care about miles than American is the way to go to Miami.

Well my first consideration would be price. If that is not a factor, than the type of plane flown would be. If AA is flying a 757 and NW a DC-9, than I'd go AA. If both are flying the same plane, I'd fly AA just because that s what I always fly and I like them better.

FYI, Northwest DOES fly 757s on the DTW-MIA route. I was on one of them. Flight 995. A nice flight, but it had been delayed in DTW for some mechanical i think.

Fly american, Northwest is always delayed for some stupid reason, I think they do it just to see how pissed the passengers get, DTW's NW terminal(s) are spread all about, and DTW just plain old sucks, FLY American.
