i don't know why they didn't bus it in the first place. the effort it takes to get everyone to both airports, then fly, is as much as driving the distance.

With flying, the Bills go straight to the airport, drive up to the plane, get on it, take off, land, get right back on a bus, go to team headquarters. Probably saves 2 hours on the drive on a good day, and with yesterday being bad I-90 might have been a mess. Not to mention the fact that there is a lot of stuff that needs to be hauled back - it probably can't fit on all coach buses - easier to just put it on a plane.

today's incident demonstrates that is isn't always easier to put it on a plane.

and stuff can be hauled by truck behind the buses. football teams travel by bus all the time. And they need to get the stuff off the plane and to the stadium, so who do they do that? Same kind of motor coaches...  Wink

but yeah, the I-90 traffic might have been a real bitch anyway, so I see your point on that.

Out of curiosity, how big a wrist-slap does the pilot get in cases like this?

It really depends drastically on what actually happened and airline it occured at. It could be anywhere from filling out a report and having that be the end of it.... to, very realistically, an FAA violation and termination of employment.

Driving I-90 between Cleveland and Buffalo in the winter, especially during a snow storm, can be extremely dangerous. That stretch of I-90 parallels the Lake Erie shore line and is very prone to lake effect snow which turns a typical snow storm into an all out blizzard. During the winter, it is not uncommon to get 12 foot snow drifts on this section of I-90 and complete whiteouts. So flying is much safer in this case and faster.

Amtrak claims the Lake Shore Limited was only an hour and ten minutes late into Buffalo this morning. That's what they should have taken.

Forget that, they could have chartered a train. Amtrak has plenty of equipment laying around after their cutbacks. Of course, are they set up for charters?

Way back when, some wealthier sports teams would own their own pullman train car and boxcar, then have the tandem hitched to a train heading in the direction of their game.

they could easily go 11-5 and win the division despite losing twice to PIT. Who would have thunk it? Browns and Packers are the surprise teams of the season, no doubt.

I'd put the Captain in the Dog Pound with a Steelers jersey on him, that would be worthy of no other action required!!!!

Dear God. That's just cruel -- I wouldn't put my worst enemy in the dog pound with a Steeler's keychain, let alone a jersey... Surely getting stuck in mud isn't that bad (and plus, us CLEers had a widebody sticking around a while longer than expected...) Big grin

So could the Steelers; they're playing the Saint Louis and Baltimore

But back to the airplane ... surprised nobody has reported it back on pavement yet. Alternatively, if it's frozen solid, maybe Delta could look on it as a billboard until spring - paint it with an AirTran livery or something.
