Can someone please tell me an easy way to distinguish between MD 80,82,83,
88,90, and Boeing 717. Also how do you tell if you are looking at a Boeing 767, 777, Airbus A300, or A310?

Well, for instance, the MD88 has a taller tail than the older MD81-82-83.
The MD90 has bigger engines, the B717 has a shorter fuselage and bigger engines too.
The B777 is larger than the B767 and has six wheels in each main gear, the tail is also thinner and taller.
And the A310 has a shorter fuselage than the A300.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Well, the A300 has one more door than the A310.

The B777 has a quite unique tail.

The tail of the B767 is somewhat pointing down. You can see it on this picture:

I've never digged deep enough in the DC-9 family to distinguish the different members. If you're lucky, it's written somewhere on the aircraft.

Well, that;s not quite true Astrojet.
Ther is absolutely no way to visually distinguish an MD -81, -82, -83, or -88 from each other-unless it happens to be painted on the a/c. The differences are all internal.
Its the -87 that has the taller, pointed tail, and the fuselage is shorter. But it has the standard cylindar engines found on all other MD-80's.

The MD-90 has the tall pointed tail, and the huge, short engines.

The 717 looks like a baby MD-90, with the tall pointed tail, and fat engines, only it is much shorter.

The differnece between the A300 and the A310 is quite easy: For newer a/c, have a look at the small winglets. They are different.
Also the A300 has 8 doors instead of 6.

The sheer size of the 777's engines plus the 6 wheel landing gears should give it away, plus no overwing exits like the 767.
