Chance Of EA Upgrade On CO 634 12/25?

I'm booked on CO 634, the red-eye LAX-CLE 753 on 12/25.

Every time I do this flight I cross my fingers and hope that I'll get a seat up front -- and so far this is the one flight that I've consistently lucked out on.

This morning, I checked... and I still have my original seat. The seat map shows less than 1/2 of the seats in F are occupied, and seatcounter is showing 9 availaility in A and R.

I know I'm at the bottom of the priority list (NW silver since CO won't let me swing that over), but in the past in similar circumstances (even the same flight) I've seen the upgrade the day before departure, so I'm wondering if there's something I'm not seeing that will mean no upgrade on this flight. (Or, alternatively if seatcounter is lying to me and there's no availability up front)

Merry Christmas everyone, and have a Happy New Year

[Appologies in advance to those who feel this is a stupid thread or that I've developed an 'entitlement complex'. Normally I don't really care, but on that flight I can actually sleep in a F seat, where Y means bottle of sleep aid  Wink ]

Merry Christmas to you, too.

I don't think (contrary to what you wrote, I know) that Continenal normally does Silver upgrades until day of flight.
They never have for me, anyway.

Cheers!

At this point I'll say you are good to go for the upgrade. There are 17 open seats in F, and only 5 upgradable elites waiting for them

As much as I think you're right (that's how it happens more often than not on my other flights) I can swear that in the past on this flight the upgrade typically comes between midnight and 6 am the day before... In a one case it was like 3 days before, but I think that was either a glitch or a heavily-booked flight (at least for the Y cabin) and they wanted to free up seats.

CO says "beginning one callendar day prior to departure" which implies that it's possible it could happen any time today.

I got a PM with F-class loads, and so far it's very promising... Unless there are a heck of a lot of silvers whos upgrades also haven't cleared or if there's a basketball team or something that's going to buy out F I should be OK

EDIT: Based on Artsyman's post it looks like very good news...  Smile

Thanks again!

Ah, I see. I always interpreted that to be at "time of check in" because you can, in fact, check in starting 24 hours in advance.

Hmm, different way to look at it.

Just wanted to say "Thanks" for the replies here and via Instant Messages... The upgrade did clear when I checked in.

That's what I thought until I started noticing upgrades clearing well before the checkin window opened...it's really hit or miss, and the only consistent thing I've found is that if the F cabin is nealy full or during irregular ops the seats won't be released until just before boarding...other than that the upgrade can happen just about any time, it seems.

Thanks again... and Merry Christmas.

(For anyone at in T6 @ LAX tonight I'll be the guy black pants, black jacket, brown-ish shirt, either wandering around 5/6/7/8 or sitting by the gate for 634 (60?) with a Dell laptop starting at about 9 PM)
