Interesting article in Memphis Commercial Appeal (Sunday, Dec. 23, 07) re: the upcoming retirement of Bob Martin who has been the Operations Director at MEM since 1989. It is great to see the behind the scenes folks recognized as many of us never hear about these pillars that keep things going and held together through thick and thin.
Mr. Martin has been at MEM previously with Southern Airways, Republic, and Northwest in operations positions.
Near the end of the linked article is the answer to how the Northwest Hub at Memphis got its life. I know that many a.netters have discussed and belabored the Memphis Hub topic.

He has ran a classy airport with a retro feel to it. I for one like the Memphis International Airport. Except when I get stuck there and the only hotel room open is on the 'runway' side of the FedEx planes...
Heres to your retirement Mr. Martin. Enjoy your years.
