"Panic gripped onlookers and passengers at the Lusaka International airport when a South African airways passenger plane hit into a stationary truck upon arrival from Johannesburg."
And it was a B737-800 and not a -700! SAA does not have -700's. The media sometimes......
ouch.... thats why I always try to look out and see if there is something in the way! problem on the MD11F is: you cannot see the wingtip from the flight deck... so I always hope she fits through

Yeah, thats what I thought as well! I am pretty sure you felt it how the wingtip hit the truck... but who knows what they were thinking there up front...

I didn't think that the wing/winglet could be so sturdy... I mean, the hit is hard enough to tip over the truck.... and the wing does not receive a lot of damage.... impressive if you ask me

Quoting News Report: No casualties were recorded and both airport and airline officials further refused to state the number of passengers on board citing security reasons.
And the press needed to know the number of S.O.B why? It's not as if this is an incident that particularly requires that kind of information from the press.

So they can go and blow it up and say out of 115 pax 45 were injured and it was a horrible accident. Come on we all know how the press likes to blow things up!

Uh...wow. 9 paragraphs to, essentially say, "No one would talk to us and we're pissed that the airport staff is following directions and not letting us get up close and personal"? And a little sensationalistic to boot -- "Panic gripped on lookers and passengers at the Lusaka International airport..."
Quoting DurangoMac (Reply 19): I'm surprised it didn't take the wing right off. Show's you how sturdy those flying machines are.
I would be more than a little concerned if such a relatively slight impact so far out on the wing took it of -- remember how much the engine hanging off that wing weighs and how much weight (passengers + bags + fuel) it's supporting when you're in the air.

This is quite the lucky catch...these moments are rare enough as it is, even before you take into account the fact that a passenger managed to catch it on film. Wonder if it's the fault of the pilot or the driver who parked the equipment too close to the aircraft's path.
