SEA-KIX To Be Replaced By 747?!

Is Northwest planning on putting a 747 on the SEA-KIX (Osaka Kansi) route? Will it be a -251 or a -451? I don't believe the A330 has the ability to do this route, non-stop. Anyone know for sure, or willing to make an educated guess? Thanks.

I don't know if this is educated.... but I think NWA wanted to put the A330's into their transatlantic network to replace the ageing DC10's. So no A330's will be put on the pacific part of their network. A 747 on the SEA-KIX route? Have no clue!

I was talking to a NWA manager at a dinner over the weekend and he mentioned that SEA-KIX will go over to the 742. The 742 will come from one of the LAX routes which will become a 744.

Well its better than a -10. Hell, living in SAN without a flight to Tokyo, I'd be happy to take your -10 and your 742!!! Smile

Canadian used to fly 763s to Beijing from Vancouver so an A330 could easily make this route. Maybe if NWA likes their A330s they will consider basing a few at the Tokyo hub for SEA and Intra-Asia routes.

u r rite Aaron. Why cant a 333 do SEA-KIX? it can fly full passenger payload for 5600nm: 295pax+ baggage. e.g. Bangkok-Anchorage non-stop
Bangkok-Scandinavia non-stop (good for TG MD-11 sometimes?)
Paris to Johannesburg non-stop
Paris to Port Blair* or Yangon non-stop

*Please note that there are no flights to Port Blair except domestic Indian flights. Port Blair does not have an International airport. Port Blair is in the Andaman Sea, Andaman and Nicobar island of India. BTW, I made up the Paris-Port Blair thingy. Correct me if i am wrong but the rest i am sure.

I take it that the stats you quote come from Airbus? I'm sure you realize that both Boeing and Airbus kind of, well, embelish their numbers a little. Taking official numbers from the manufacturers is a good way to compare aircraft, but not always indicitive of what the aircraft is capable of.


Now another question to anyone who might know; can the A333 replace NW's DC-10 on the SEA-AMS route? I know Aer Lingus flys the A332 DUB-LAX, so I know the -200 has the range, but does the -300? Just curious.

The distance from SEA to AMS is 4238 nautical miles. Airbus says with the maximum number of pax the A330-300's range is 5600 nautical miles. So the A333 can make it, even if Airbus 'enhanced' the website specs.

Airbus Lover - actually Port Blair (IXZ) IS an international airport and has been known to handle the occasional charter flight from Thailand. Even though it is an Indian territory, it is geographically closer to both Thailand and Myanmar.

However, I would pay BIG MONEY to watch an A330 even try and negotiate the approach to IXZ. It is bad enough in a 737, which is all that I have flown into there (although IC sends A320s there too). The airport itself is absolutely picturesque though, albeit very primitive.

Didn't NW get the A330-300 for an Atlantic DC-10 replacement? So that means that their Pacific routes will go 747. Is that feasible? Or will they have to find a new plane? It could also replace the 747-200, which can't be around forever for SEA-KIX. Maybe the A340? Is there a planned A330 stretch/long range? Maybe even the 777-300?
What do you think?

I thought NW was ordering more 747-400s to fly the Pacific routes, so the 747-200 on the KIX run would just be a temp. replacement. Mas777, does the SEA-KIX flight continue to KUL? (I think it's NW095). Is this a code-share with MAS?

I am pretty sure the same aircraft continues on to KUL, although the flight numbers from SEA to KIX and KIX to KUL are different:

NW 095 SEA-KIX arr. 3:30PM daily
NW 069 KIX-KUL dep. 5:00PM TuFrSu

When I flew on NW95/96 two years ago, it continued to Taipei. Four years ago when I flew on 96, I think it went TPE-KIX-SEA-MEM-LGA. The plane switched to an A320 at SEA. But, the next year, I think it changed to: TPE-KIX-SEA-BOS . Maybe it changed again to KUL.

The OAG shows that NW flight 95 originates at MSP and goes to KIX by way of SEA. As I said, the flight number terminates at KIX, but the same plane goes on to KUL.

I don't think NW operates a KIX-TPE flight anymore.
