The final Song-painted aircraft is now in Victorville, CA receiving her new dress. I, for one, am glad the remnants of Song have "faded" (pun intended) into Delta's history. Still, here's a few to remember:

How many DL aircraft are left in the 97 colors? Will there be any effort to speed up the repainting of these aircraft now?

They in my opinion were the best domestic coach airline, even better than B6. Had some great flights on them.

Thought it was different that I didn't see any Song birds in ATL when I passed through on Sunday - always had seen one or two. On the flip side, I saw about 10-12 planes there in the new livery (all 757/767s; I saw the lone MD-80 in the new c/s up in BOS when I landed there).

Got a Song-painted bird this summer on SLC-PDX...nice ride. The interior amenities (well, the personal entertainment, at least) sure beat the rest of the mainline 757 fleet.

How can you be glad when Song had a far better product than Delta has?

Most of the best features of Song have been integrated into Delta's long haul domestic product, and is now even better with the addition of first class on these flights. The Song IFE system (Panasonic eFX) also became the basis for Delta's newest international IFE system, only without the live satellite TV feature.

Because it was a money waster, AND because many of the product improvements that Song experimented with are actually being incoroporated into the Delta mainline fleet. Like IFE, interesting food choices, etc.

The song painted planes were regularly seen in Boson this past summer. Why have they waited so long to repaint them, or the reverse - why bother repainting them now?

Too bad about Song, They earned a very loyal following for a lot of people up north for a while. Then they got careless and you would book a song flight only to find yourself stuck in the back of a MD80. They lost more customers with that...

No. Since the aircraft are still operated under a Delta certificate, there is no way Song could have ordered aircraft without Delta's authority. Song never ordered or operated 737-800s. However, some of the 737-800s will get Song IFE now though.

No. Although there were rumors several years back that Delta was going to order 73Gs for Delta Express, but it was just rumors and DLX was soon confined to the dustbin of defunct airlines when Delta rolled out Song.

Waited s long? Song was just put to an in mid 2006. Delta filed for bankrupcy in 2005. It would have made no sense to paint these aircraft twice knowing a livery change was coming up anyway post bankrupcy.

Quoting CodyKDiamond (Reply 18):

Song was just a name. Delta still had full control of the Song brand. I did though, here rumors during its battle to stay alive before they decided to axe it that Delta was looking at turning to 737/7's.

I flew on them twice. Once from SJU-JFK. And another time ATL-BOS. Both flights were a treat. Then the first time I flew on an IFE Delta was last year. It was ATL-JFK-ATL (got luck on the return too!). It was in Song colors but the interior was Delta with first class, blue seats, etc. I was working for ASA at the time so I made first class on stand-by and the seats were very comfortable and the recline was great. And the IFE was awesome too. Very clean "air-ey" plane.
