Hi everyone,

Let me first wish you all a happy new year. I hope you all had wonderful festivities.

As always, I start the year by reviewing what when on in aviation the previous year. I must say that the most important event that took place in 2007 was the delivery of the first Airbus A380 to Singapore. Only one A380 was delivered in 2007, it flew the first revenue flight from SIN to SYD and back.

Other aviation events in 2007:
-Air France retires last 737 and last Classic 747.
-The first B787 Dreamliner rolls out of the Boeing plant in Everett WA.
-Virgin Express and SN Brussels Airlines merge into a new airline: Brussels Airlines.
-One World welcomes JAL, Malev and Royal Jordanian.
-80th anniversary of the first transatlantic flight: Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the pond in 1927!
-British Airways orders A380's and B787's.
-Continental introduces the 737-900ER.

-New American Airlines terminal at New York JFK completed.
-Delta and CSA unveil new liveries.
-UPS orders B767-300F's.
-American plans to accelerate delivery of additional B737-800's.
-SAA retires last 747.
-Jet Airways develops BRU as a main point in its global network.

-Airbus announces the A350XWB.

Actually Airbus launched the A350XWB in 2006.

I would also add the following:

Launch of the A330-200F program.
Launch of the A320/A321F conversion program.
Entry Into Service of first A318 Elite
Entry Into Service of first A318 PW6000.
First A380VIP ( Flying Palace sale)
Group Marsans places MOU for 4 A380's

Regards,
Wings

You could add the fact that 2007 was declared one of the safest year for aviation by the Geneva-based aircraft Crashes Record Office, with a 25% drop in number of crashes compared to previous year. There had not been so few serious accidents, 136, since 1963. Unfortunately, in terms of casualties we are still not beating the 2004 record low, but overall a very good trend. It seems that once again the Democratic Republic of Congo has the worst record when it comes to aviation safety. And it also appears that 2007 had a greater than average number of accidents on landing - especially the awful crash in Sao Paulo. So still plenty of room for improvement in 2008 and beyond...
