I wanted to just post this in this thread ATA To Operate DC-10 In Scheduled Service (by IFlyATA Dec 11 2007 in Civil Aviation) but it appears I'm not able to...so thus I'll start a new one.

Rare...very rare...occasion, and maybe consider it a belated Christmas gift.  Smile

TZ4755 LAX-HNL 04JAN in an L1011
It's only going LAX-HNL, not the way back.

Enjoy this once-in-a-blue-moon event!

Where will it go after HNL?

I sat in the jumpseat on an ATA L1011 once from LAX-OGG, one of the best flights I've ever been on. Good to hear it's going again.. at least this once.

My mistake, it WILL be returning back as 4754 HNL-LAX.

From there, it ferries to RDU to operate a private charter.

Man, too bad I don't live near LAX or RDU... I would love to see an L1011 again!! I think I only saw one -- down at MCO on 13 April 2000. I don't know who was flying it tho...

The most likely reason for this is DC-10 N702TZ went mechanical on the 3rd, the crew timed out, and TZ4755 got cancelled. An L-1011 was probably brought in for today's flight as a result.

Does anyone know if an L-1011 is scheduled to operate another LAX-HNL-LAX flight, or was this completely random??

And was delayed as usual. Once they started bringing in those trijets, some flights were delayed for hours! It's nice to see those trijets in HNL though, especially the L-1011.

Yes, it looks like they are going to operate the L-1011 again for TZ4755/TZ4754 today. As I type, the flight should have left HNL for LAX. Again, it got re-timed and is scheduled to arrive HNL at 22:00 HST instead of the usual noon arrival. Roughly 10 hours behind schedule!

Hmm .. no, it's a little worse than that ... N162AT is just about to land in LAX to pick up 4755, some 10 hours late ..
Subsequently, 4754 will also be approximatly 10 hours late .. DC10 705, that was ferried to HNL from SEA, is just about to leave as 4758 .. some 7.40 late ...

A lot of unhappy campers in LAX and HNL, I'm sure ...

I managed to get out to RDU when it arrived and got some pictures of it. It was great to see. Just curious but does anyone know what the private charter at RDU was for. Not too important but I just felt thats a lot of plane to be flying into RDU... Thanks!

Are L1011s scheduled on any flights? Or just charters? Here's a rare picture of an ATA L1011 in Bulgaria from this last December.

What time will it be arriving back to LAX? The morning of the 6th? Does anyone know when the planned departure out of LAX is and where it is going? Thanks.

How great would it be to fly a Tristar on one leg and a DC-10 on the return! It's too bad these flights only occur on short notice when it's too late to book flights.

There's nothing quite like a tri-jet.

Got this photo of an ATA DC10 at SAT 12-22-07. Looks like they're working on the paint job. Anybody know which DC10 this is?

I just dropped my bf at work (LAX) and noticed both an L-1011 AND a DC-10 on T-3, both ATA birds. They are sitting side by side, I'll try and snap a picture if I can.

Ya, the L1011 came in this morning and will be departing back to DFW sometime before noon. I really wish the weather was better. That might have been the only time I see an L1011 flying again. Bummer.
