Woke up this morning - had this theme song in my head for some whacked reason but had to try and find it! I loved all the airline ads and jingles of the 70's and 80's. Check out this site - very entertaining. And here's a link to that commercial with the jingle I was humming...plus a few more of my favorites!

and if this one doesn't make you chuckle, nothing will...

PS -

If anyone knows how to get a longer track of the actual theme, either "Delta Gets you there" or "We're AA - Something Special in the Air" - or "Silver Bird, take me Where" I'd really appreciate the information!

I can't wait to get my 727 (1/72 scale model !!) finished in Western colours.... one of the best colourschemes using a cheatline! But I digress:

Loved that old bird that Western used, transitioning from the Indianhead livery to the modern W... that bird had attitude! What was his name?

Now I know why they put puke bags in seat-back pockets. "Corny" doesn't even come close to describing these cultural gems.

I remember when I was younger the tagline to NW back in the 80's, especially at the end of the safety video ... Look To US  airplane  Northwest!

His name was Wally. Famous for his Mr. Magoo-like voice & the swizzle stick in his drink.
I think it was Jim Backus that supplied the voice too.

I remember that one clearly - it was "look to us, fly with us, Northwest"

Trying to find a few more jingles if anyone has insight - I remember them in my head and know they had official jingles recorded!

You can't beat the experience - PanAm!
No one serves our republic like Republic!
We're Eastern, America's favorite way to fly!
You're gonna like us, TWA

Did Piedmont ever have a jingle?

On the latter, I'd swear that the first FA that talks looks like Adrienne "The Bust" Barbeau, who played an Eastern FA from the movie "The Crash of Flight 401"

Boy, I've not played much with YouTube but there are dozens of vintage airline commercials on there - what a blast!

Yes it was - I remember that claim to fame being quite sought after by AA. I think "Aeroflot" at the time was a blanket name covering everything from an IL-62 to crop dusters and traffic copters at the time - litterally, SU claimed to have thousands of aircraft until the wall came down and they rationalized themselves a bit with the real world.

That because the USSR was a Communist country and under the Communist system the state owns everything. So it didn't matter what purpose and aircraft was used, it was "Aeroflot's".

THat's what I thought-they had something like 11000 aircraft, which covered virtually every aircraft in the country.

That Braniff ad is the absolute bomb. I love the guy on the jetpack outside the plane, the corded phone, and the option to watch any of THREE different movies, or even all three of them at once with the swivel chairs. Woo-hoo!

I also liked the 1982 AA ad - "full service, no matter what you paid". Well, I guess now the only truthful line would be "full service, depending on what you paid."

Speaking of AA, for those who haven't seen them, here are the two post-9/11 AA ads that seemed so compelling at the time and still look very good.
