I pretty much agree, I think they have it right with the top three, not necessarily in that order, but those are 3 VERY good airlines... I would have thought Ansett would have ranked higher, but then again, their world class international service is, at present, very limited.

However, you have to take these with a grain of salt, there is only a very small number of reports in comparison to the number of total passangers, so it is not a very accurate survey, and could easily be skewed by a few 'too good' or a few 'too bad' experiences

Singapore and Cathay Pacific should be 1 and 2 respectively. I dont know anying about Air New Zealand. Qantas and Ansett Australia should have higher rankings as well. I disagree with Asiana being 7th... that's a very high ranking for such a poor airline. I'm not a fan of Korean Air either, but I think they should have a higher ranking than Asiana.

NEFlyer's revised list:
1. Singapore
2. Cathay Pacific
3. Qantas
4. Ansett Australia

NEFlyer - Despite its comparitive small size, I would put Air New Zealand at least lever with Qantas, if not higher. Unfortunately, there are a few behind the scenes problems in management righ now, the whole integration deal is proving to be quite a strain! Still, they are going to pull through, especially with SIA behind them.

They are a very good airline! I suggest you try them out if you ever get a chance, I am sure you wont be disapointed (they will be installing PTVs in economy in the near future)

I think the best airlines is Cathay Pacific, Sigapore Airlines. JAL is not good, the seat is not comfortable.

The thing i cannot understand is how can you guys be saying that AirNZ is not good when you have not flown with them?? Even though i have only flown a few there. AirNZ and SQ are two very good airlines (Don't know about CX- never flown them.)

So sorry but i cannot say anything about this survey.

Um escuse, me!

Oh phew, I though SIA wasn't in the top 10.

I would have to disagree with that personally. I have only flown with three airlines in the Asian Pacific region so here they are

1) Singapore Airlines
2) Cathay Pacific
3) Vietnam Airlines (I would rather put that in 2 but I just can't)

My list would be in the following revised order

1/ Thai Airways
2/ Air New Zealand
3/ Cathay Pacific
4/ Singapore Airlines
5/ Ansett Australia
6/ Korean Air
7/ EVA
8/ Asiana
9/ JAL
10/ Qantas

Interesting comments. I agree Ansett in particular is undervalued.

I strongly agree with TG992's new order. But i still think Air New Zealand should be at the top. So what.. they dont have ptv's, i think that they are one of the best airlines out there!! Very great service, is what i heard from a friend. And plus, NEFlyer, Asiana is not a poor airline, they are one of the fastest growing airlines out there. But still, i think that Korean Air should be #5, they do have nice F/A's.

These are what airlines I have flown in the asia/pacific region. Air New Zealand, Ansett New Zealand, Ansett Australia, Qantas, Singapore, Thai Int Airways, and Air Pacific.

This is how I would rank these airlines.

1. Air New Zealand
2. Singapore Airlines
3. Air Pacific
4. Thai Int Airways
5. Ansett Australia
6. Ansett New Zealand
7. Qantas

Hard decision on #1 and #2 but there's something about ANZ that makes them stand out, cant descibe it though.

Qantas is definately the worst airline I have ever flown on. Never again.

OUT!

1. Singapore
2. Thai
3. Cathay Pacific
4. Eva
5. ANZ
6. JAL
7. Ansett
8. Qantas

I can´t believe that none of you guys has mentioned MAS - although I haven´t flown them yet. But from all I´ve haerd about them they have a very good reputation, similar to that of Cathay or SIA, despite of their financial troubles.

Having flown on SQ TG Asiana and KE, I think the list is pretty close. It just depends on what you are ranking on. Asiana is a very good airline and has come a long way in such a short time. Sure KE is nice, but their safety record leaves much much to be desired.

Having flown on both JAA and JAL. Their service is only on par. I can't rank them in top 5. Same holds true for Qantas.

Personally, I would vote Thai and EVA to be 4&5.

EVA used to have the best service out there. But it has been on a decline (old fleet). Hoepfully with introduction on 777LR and A330, the service will recieve an upgrade soon.

EVA really needs new airplane to compete against CX and SQ.

I just flown on EVA last week from SFO to TPE. Even though EVA is among the 1st to introduce PTV. But the interior is outdated. I want sleeper seats.

For International in the region, it would have to be:

Ansett International.

They cream the others, and are continually winning awards for their inflight services in both eco and business.

*yay* (Hopefully the evil step monster will keep her evil claws away from AN Intl.)

Cheers,

I dont really care how fast they're growning. Their inflight services/entertainment/overal services are poor for an international airline. I'm not sure how long ago you have flown with OZ or KE for that matter, but I flew with OZ in August 2000, and I have no plans of ever flying with again. I fly over 75,000+ miles/year and with the amount of flying that I do, I would hope that the services offered on international flights are at least decent with edible food and good entertainment(ie. SQ, CX, AC, UA).. I did not find that with OZ.. My flight SEL-LAX-SEL.. left me extremely bored and hungry, the food was horrible.. the inflight entertainment was poor, not only was it poor, but one of my segemtns had a busted headphone socket.

I stand by my original comment about Asiana and don't plan on changing my mind. I know people who are fans of OZ and/or KE, one of those happens to by mom who flies KE monthly.

I use to be a great fan of Thai Airways and tried them out three times. I just got off a Thai 773 on Monday (29-01-01) and I was sooooooooooooooo disappointed to say the least!
One of the worst thing about Thai is that a lot of the Cabin crews cannot understand English and they frown at you when they don't understand. I know that Thailand doesn't speak English as it's official English but in an airline so famous for it's inflight service I think the flight attendants should speak better English.
And they don't have PTVs in Y Class which puts them so much behind the others (Even China Airlines and Sri Lankan Airlines has PTV in Y Class on certain aircrafts... and TG doesn't have them in their newest fleet (773s) ??) I just have to say that Singapore Airlines is much better than TG in Y Class!! (I've just flown SQ on 14 and 21st JAN TPE-NRT KIX-TPE)
Thai simply is not the best....

Omg.. are you serious??? I went to Korea in August too!And I found their service extremely nice. They even gave me 2 Playing cards and even an extra blanket to take home. They also gave free "Asiana Toys" like free dart boards. I dont understand why you felt so bored. I saw Romeo Must Die, and Return to Me. They even had Menus in Economy class, so if we wanted something special, we could of just called the flight attendent and ordered it FOR FREE. Maybe you should of just asked for stuff that can make you have a more enjoyable flight. Or maybe YOU SHOULD OF ASKED A FLIGHT ATTENDENT TO BE MOVED TO ANOTHER WINDOW SEAT IN THAT FLIGHT. I am not B/S ing this either. And All of the things i got were under a request... Well I understand that you really hated their service but if you're in another position like this.. dont wine to us and tell us that you hated that airline, ask them to do something, or just get the f/a's your attention, so that you will make YOUR $800.00 FLIGHT WORTH IT.

Yes, they did show those movies, but was I able to watch those movies? No, I was not able to watch either movie, as my seat had a busted headphone socket. I did mention the problem to the FA, and her response was *FA shakes her head and walks away*.

I ran into a similar incident on KE during the Northwest strike. I was seated in "Prestige Class", which is KE's business cabin on a brand new 777-200 in '98. The lights, the PTV's, the audio, the video.. and anyting electrical did not work on our entire row. I believe it was row 1A. I complained as did my dad, who happened to be sitting next to me and little did the FA's do about that problem.

I understand that many find OZ and KE to be good airlines with good inflight services. There are also those who found their service to be unsatisfactory.

I am NOT whining to you "guys" at airliners.net about KE or OZ. I am merely telling my opinion of the airline. Message boards/forums were made for opinions, and I am expressing mine. I am only telling you about my experiences with OZ and KE, because I received poor service several times from both carriers.

For the time being, I will stick with Air Canada and their partners(SQ, UA).

I would have had Ansett, Qantas, SIA, and Cathay as the top ones. I dont know how JAL beat Qantas, on JAL/Qantas code shared flights, the JAL a/c have not been anywhere near as nice as Qantas's a/c are. But they do have good service and they operate nicer a/c on their more productive services.
