Does anyone remember what color schemes of seat covers did Delta's aircraft use in the past by aircraft type? I know most of Delta's aircraft in the 1990s used a mix of red, blue, and gray seats. However, there were several exceptions. I remember flying in 1996 on a domestic 767-300, and the seats were a fiery scheme of red and orange. I actually find that strange for the time, as such colors are more often associated with aircraft in the 1970s; cool colors generally represent a more business-like tone, and are used by most airlines today. I have also heard that early on, the 767-200s used a scheme of earth tones, which would be more associated with the 1960s. I know that the L-1011s used mostly orange-colored seats in the 1970s, but new seats were installed in the late 1980s. The L-1011-1s used mostly blue and gray, while the L-1011-250s and L-1011-500s had red, blue, and gray. In 1999, Delta introduced the blue diamond pattern cloth on all of their aircraft except for the L-1011s, with all seats being the same color. Before Delta decided on the blue leather seat covers in 2004, Delta did experiment with a bluish-green cloth on one 737-800.

Here is a list of what I know what Delta's aircraft used prior to 1999:
MD-88 - red, blue, gray
MD-90 - blue, gray
767-300 Domestic - red, orange
767-300ER International - red, blue, gray
L-1011-1 - originally mostly orange, then blue and gray
L-1011-250/500 - originally mostly orange, red, blue, gray

Here is what I would like to know what seat colors did Delta use before 1999:
MD-11
727-200
737-200
737-300
757-200
767-200 (originally earth tones, not sure what was after that)

I don't need to know about the 737-800, 767-400ER, and 777-200ER, as they entered service with the blue diamond cloth pattern.

Just of of curiousity, Person of Leet Speak... Why are you so intensely interested in Delta's interiors? You seem to mention them a hell of a lot. Are you an art student or interior designer or something? Thanks.

I am a frequent Delta flier. In this thread, I would just like to know what color schemes Delta has used in the past for the seats.

We of course are all familiar with Delta's blue diamond pattern cloth introduced in 1999, and the solid blue leather introduced in 2004. We also know about Song's color scheme, which featured the seats in a light blue color featuring different colored sides. I know that during most of the 1990s, Delta used various colors, with not all the seats being the same color. I know that most aircraft used a mix of red, blue, and gray seats during that time:

However, there were some other color schemes, such as those on the L-1011-1s:

One color scheme that I especially remember, but do not have a photo of, is the scheme that was used on the domestic 767-300s. Th

The picture is of a Delta L-1011-250 not a -1. Delta never installed centerline bins on any of their -1's.

The second image is an L-1011-1.

I seem to remember DL having Orange/Pink flower patterns on the DC-9s. Valujet inherited those aircraft, and were too.. "lazy?" to switch them out at first. Slowly but surely, they started re-fitting their airplanes. But the Pink/Orange seats are what I remember seeing. Flower patterns on some, and stripe patterns on others.

That would probably qualify as a ridiculous understatement  Big grin

That picture is very, very disturbing.

MD-11
727-200
737-200
737-300
757-200
767-200 (originally earth tones, not sure what was after that)

Here's what I can remember....

L-1011's used the above interior from delivery until around 1995/6 (including 751-756). Orange carpet in F/C, Brown in Y/C. Domestic Bulkheads (712-735 plus 737 "Hawaii -250") never changed from Delivery to Retirement.

MD-88/90 interiors had the seat covers shown in the L-1011-1 above plus some red covers mixed in. PUD L-1011's (759-763) used these interiors as well. Gray Carpet and Navy Bulkheads.

732's and 752's used the exact same interiors...Lots of Brown, Gray and Maroon in F/C and Y/C. Brown bulkheads and Brown/Maroon carpet.

733's and 722's (557-589) used Gray and Blue seats (Blue leather in F/C) inherited from Western. Burlap style bulkheads. Gray carpet. Both eventually were changed to MD-88 style.

722's (Delta) used two different interiors. 400 series used DC-8/9 Y/C interior ( orange L-1011 covers plus some maroon ones) Maroon carpet/ Woodgrain Bulkheads. 500 series 722's used the "Fantasy"(internal name) interiors .....Bright Orange, Bright Purple and Bright blue covers in Y/C. Bright Orange carpet (always filthy) and Woodgrain Bulkheads. Both used Dark Blue/Red mixed cloth in F/C.

767's (101-130) had the earthtones that you mentioned. Lots of Oranges and Tans. Orangish/Tan carpet. "Flowering Tree" bulkheads similar to what was on the 747.

MD-11's (including 891-892) A-310's, 767's (131-139, 1401-2,171-199, 1200-1201) and AC L-1011's (764-769) used the -250 covers shown above. Carpet color was similar to the A.net background color. MD-11 F/C (three class) had very thick exclusive carpet. Maroon leather in F/C and Navy Leather in C Class. All except 767's had $6000 hand tufted carpets on the bulkheads.

You can blame interior commonality on Leo Mullin. He spearheaded the effort to go to one seat cover......Diamond pattern with gray leather toppers (which quickly went away).

Hopefully, all this info doesn't make your head explode........
