Yet another win for the T700, and a blow to PW seeing that their existing A330s are PW powered.

This now gives Thai 2 different engines types for their A330 fleet, though does follow their recent pattern if choosing Trent powered 777s, A340s and A380s.

This is an interesting move given the rest of the fleet are P&W powered.

Did RR give them a super deal or do Thai feel RR actually offer a better engine based on the stats vs their current fleet?

Either way, not complaning, look forward to seeing a TG 333 with Trents  Smile

Quoting AirbusA6 (Thread starter):
choosing Trent powered 777s, A340s and A380s.

As far as I know, TG haven't yet announced an engine selection for their A380s but I agree that the Trent must be the favourite.

It has also be rumoured that LX are switching from PW to RR for their new A330s though that is partly explained by the influence of LH.

Anyway, the Trent 700 is now so far ahead of both the PW4000 and CF6 on the A330 that it's hard to see RR lose the No.1 position. By my calculations, of the firm A330 sales announced in 2007, GE got 8, PW got 29 and RR got 102. They rest haven't yet announced an engine choice.

I would guess RR got the deal as it is a very reliable engine and like AirbusA6 said; for fleets commonality.

PM,

I believe you are right about the LX new birds being RR powered.

- Now this I'd like to see.

Some said as SR Technics having the contract to service LX 330's, LX would choose P&W again, howver since LH has RR it would make sense to have the 333's with the Rollers  Smile

By your calculations someone is going to be flying with 1 engine.  Smile

So looks like TG have the all current operating versions of the trent either in service or on order like SQ. Wonder if they'll go for the T1000 or TXWB too?

He's talking about numbers of planes, not engines.  smile

Big blow to PW here. Typical move by TG, they always like multiple engine suppliers on the same planes Big grin

This is probably a good move for second hand values, as the RR is the much preferred engine of choice on the 330.
