Hello all,
I was just wondering what the status of the cabin upgrades to AA's 777s is. How many are yet to get Flagship Suites in F? What about J class? How many have the new J seat, and how many are left? When are these expected to be completed?
Without imposing on anybody, if anybody has easy access to a list of registrations, that would be awesome!

American wisely chose to reconfigure the 777s without the Flagship Suite (formerly known as the "Pacific Configuration") first. There are currently 20 777s with the new Business Class and video system installed. There is one 777 left with the old 18-seat first class, and 26 with the 16 F/35 C/194 configuration. The installation is going quite fast, and should be completed by late summer.
Tail numbers with the Flagship Suite, new Business Class and video system: 7AA, 7AB, 7AC, 7AD, 7AE, 7AG, 7AH, 7AJ, 7AK, 7AL, 7AM, 7AN, 7AP, 7AR, 7AS, 7AT, 7AU, 7BG, 7BW, 7BX
Tail number of aircraft without Flagship Suite: 7AF, but is going through reconfiguration process now
All other tail numbers have the Flagship Suite, but not the new J class and video system.
The reconfigured 777s are assigned randomly, not to any particular flight or destination, and you don't know which aircraft you have until you're at the gate, or in my case, when I sign in for my trip.
Also on a side note, all 58 767-300s have the new J class.

WOW thats quick!! i hope then on my next trip that i should have no probs getting a flagship suite then!
On a side note about AAs new AVOD..... I was looking through the AAtractions magazine on a recent flight and looking at the AVOD choices and i have to say that AA are being pretty cheap and poor on choice for Y customers and also sometimes J!!
Please AA.... if you are going to offer AVOD, firstly make it AVOD for everybody on the flight and also give everybody the same choice of videos!!
BA have a great selection and i loved the choice last time i went with them!! Ok you dont get games in Y but heck i dont care as the selection of films and tv shows was great!!

Will it even show up in Jetnet the day of, or will the load planner always show 16F/35C??

How does the IFE for economy work on the reconfigured 777? It is my understanding that there is a greater selection of movies and a few games. Also the movies are not AVOD but start when you select them, however the person is not able to fast forward or rewind. Is that correct? One final question on the flagship suit have they changed the size of the monitors, because I think the business class seats have bigger monitors?

I just flew to/from Brazil on AA 950/951 and they had the old F and the old J class seats. What config is that?
How many 777 remain in the old config?
Also, Do all the 763s with the new J have the upgraded 777/764-style interior/bins in Y as well?

Per NYCAAer, it seems as though you got really unlucky, and wound up on ship 7AF, N775AN. Define "old config." 7AF is the only plane that has both the old style "coffin seats" and the old J cabin, but many (25? 27? can't remember how many 777s AA has) have the Flagship Suites but the old J cabin.

1, the one you flew on (if it is really in the 18F/35J configuration).
Quoting Baron95 (Reply 6): Also, Do all the 763s with the new J have the upgraded 777/764-style interior/bins in Y as well?
Yes, though, only half of the 763 is converted, only the Business Cabin and the first four rows of economy have the Boeing Signature Interiors.
Quoting Longhornmaniac (Reply 5): Any idea when the 777 upgrades are supposed to be completed??
Flagship Suites in every 777 by the end of 2007, Spring or Summer 2008 for the new J seats.

They work on some kind of spool, i.e. a movie starting every 25 minutes. Its quasi-AVOD (or American's latest attempt to half ass a product), but its certainly an improvement on the current product).

Hehe, you do know it's already 2008, right?

Excellent! So chances are pretty good if I fly to FRA from DFW in mid May, I'll get a new J seat.

Movies start in 20 to 25 minute intervals and I could not forward or rewind them...
The selection of movies is not that good, but I was told AA will be able to add more movies to each category in the future. I just flew N777AN from NRT to DFW and the AVOD was a nightmare. One hour into the flight, the whole system collapsed and had to be restarted. Two hours into the flight, many passengers started to have problems with the system (only the map was displayed, freeze, etc). Mine just died. I told the flight attendant and she tried to restart it (just the one on my seat 42B), but the system was showing as inoperative. My brothers had problems with the audio and he could only hear a loud beep on every channel. Flight attendants were excellent and tried to do whatever they could to fix it, but couldn't make it work. One of them offered me his PSP, but I decided to read most of the flight...

So far Jetnet and aa.com will only show the 16/35 configuration and the agents release the seats during the seat assignment process at the ticket counter or gate.

Like it was said before, when a certain aircraft is assigned to a route it will show up on the seat map. You'll know if you have a reconfigured aircraft if you can see a seat 8HJ. I flew ORD-DFW in October on ship 7AP and lucky for me I got seat 8J.

That's the "extra" row at the front of the biz cabin, yes? I'm trying to visualize what is to your left in this row? The wall of the lavs that are in the center of the plane?
If so, that would make 8H/J somewhat of a private little area of the biz class cabin.
