With Luton Airport expanding all the time in terms of routes and airlines etc, I thought we could use this thread to post all the latest news on the goings on at LTN / EGGW / London Luton Airport

Rumours floating around is that Shaheen Air is going to be flying ISB-LTN twice weekly from March

Wil Air Sylhet get off the ground??

Where will Silverjet fly to next??

I'm guessing Silverjet to LAX. It seems to be one of the worst kept secrets in the business.

On a side issue I actually quite like going through Luton these days compared to LGW and LHR. Despite living on the SE London/Kent border I can be up there on the train in a little over an hour, the security lines always seem to move quickly and once the M1 sorted access will be even easier.

Im thinking the same but they suprised us with DXB when we all though it was going to be Chicago

But with them advertising for people to be based in "los angeles" I think it will be LAX too!

From what I understand tickets are already on sale and are being sold through the specialist Indian/Pakistani travel agents. The flights are due to be operated by an A310, leased from a Turkish airline and will launch on the 30th March and the schedule is:

TUE & SAT
ISB 17:00 - LTN 20:30
LTN 22:00 - ISB 10:45

Air Sylhet, seem to have a good business plan behind them and will be a UK based airline. They claim they have already sourced a 762ER and will fly from Luton to a number of destinations in Bangladesh and India. Also the claim they will eventually launch services from India and Bangladesh to the USA via the UK.  bigthumbsup

SilverJet my predictions are for one of the new aircraft to fly 3x Wk to LAX, 2x Wk to LAS and 2x Wk to BGI, apparently one of the major long haul tour operators has expressed interest in buying a number of seats on their scheduled services for the leisure traveller. I think the other aircraft is likely to fly to an up and coming destination like Beijing, Delhi or Johannesburg.

Anyone know what foreign charter airlines will be flying into the LTN this summer, operating to the summer hot spot destinations?

Rememeber XXL Airways will be flying to 5x times weekly to LCA and 2 times weekly to PFO and SSH. I think these are being marketed heavily as scheduled traffic, but the majority of the seats I think are taken up by tour operators.

easyJet have scrapped their Turin, Rijeka and Rimini services this coming service and being replaced with daily services to Pisa and Jerey. Still waiting for them and FR to base some new aircrafts or operate more W flights to the airport, as no expansion in the last two years.

WizzAir will resume their summer services to Split and Bourgas this summer and has been rumours posted on other forums they may expand their Bulgaria destinations to Varna for this summer and also Plovdiv winter 08/09 for the winter sports fans. They have also added another destination in Poland to their Porfolio and will be flying Wroclaw from March.

Am I right in understanding all the stands are taken at night in LTN, making it impossible for extra based aircraft from EZY and FR?

Three summer routes axed - that's not good is it? Is everyone travelling to LGW for U2 flights instead?

Next flights: LGW-LBA-LGW, LHR-SIN-SYD, SYD-BKK-LHR, LGW-GRO, GRO-CIA, CIA-MAD, MAD-LGW

Turin is only really a seasonable route, Rijeka is dropped for good, but we will see the introduction Pisa and Jersey on March 31st

I wonder why it was dropped? I guess Jersey is profitable and also a very short flight meaning more roatations and more profitable use of aircraft. I wish Easyjet could get more routes out of Luton. Its great for north london and fares are cheaper from Luton than Gatwick (compare Gatwick and Luton to Amsterdam average price).
