Does anyone know why the 744F Atlas freighter (sorry no reg) is sitting at the old Ansett maintenance facility at MEL?
It been pushed back into a corner and been sitting there for about 10 days now. There seems to be no activity around it.

I drive past it everyday and think " I must post a question on a.net" and always forget. So thanks for raising it. hopefully we can get an answer.
I think its been then a bit more than 10 days too. Pretty sure it was there "last year"

Everyday is a gift…… but why does it have to be a pair of socks?

I thought Atlas has a contract with QF to run their freighter flights.

It's contracted to NZ to operate its twice-weekly RTW cargo flight. Routing is AKL-MEL-PVD-FRA-ORD-HNL-AKL. Don't know when it'll start and not too sure that (off)loading is allowed at HNL, might just be a fuel stop. HNL isn't listed as a destination on ANZ Cargo but it's in the flight plans...

If I recall correctly, the Atlas Air 744s in SYD are contracted to QF? If that's the case then what is the MP 744BCF doing in SYD?

AKL-MEL-PVD-FRA-ORD-HNL-AKL.

Indeed a curious if perhaps creative routing, I am going to make the assumption that BlueFlyer meant to write -AKL-MEL-PVG-FRA-ORD-HNL-AKL

Seems to me that Shanghai-Pudong is a more sensible fit in that route than Providence RI

Cheers

For once with an assumption, I am the only ass. Thanks for the correction.

I work in the same warehouse as NZ in JFK I know they were not having any freighter service to ORD until the 13th or 15th if I remember right so that could be a reason why it's been there. Ithink there last freighter into ORD was the 21 or 22 of December. January is a very slow month in the cargo business

5Y operates cargo flights for both QF and NZ.

MP has their own service to SYD. I believe it's with a stop in HKG.

I looked into it and HNL is indeed a pit stop, and not the only one. The complete routing is:
AKL-MEL-PVG-gyd-FRA-ORD-hnl-AKL
I am told the flight could occasionally operate through BNE, but I wasn't able to find out whether it was instead of, or in addition to MEL.
